I came from Milwaukee so I could sail again on the Denis Sullivan, which was sold to World Ocean School last fall. The harbor sail was fun (I actually sailed twice - 5:00 and 11:00 the next day). Plenty of things to see - on the ship, on the water, and on shore. Weather was chilly at night but warmer the next day.
The crew is helpful and gives the history of Roseway and the Sullivan. I enjoy the spacious deck, where I can move around and take pictures from all sides. With smaller vessels, you can only sit in one place.
As a history buff, being able to ride on a sailing ship is a privilege - it's living history. Deck tours are okay, but it's the ride that makes it interesting. Setting the sails makes one appreciate what it must have been like when there was only wind power to travel on the water. And the Denis Sullivan is large enough to let visitors be on the water in grand style.
There are many tour boats but not many sailing ships. This is a unique experience for those who treasure such things.

I took my elementary-aged children on a Roseway sail around Boston Harbor, and we had a fabulous time. What made the experience special was how good the Roseway's crew was with my children: no fewer than three members took the time to squat down and start a conversation with my kids, answering their questions in that way that encourages them to ask and learn more. Americorps Volunteer Rudy, in particular, gave them a tour of the belowdecks galley and enlisted their help in hoisting the signal flags, which they both adored. Another crew member watched one of my kids for me while I took the other to the marine head! I think the Roseway's overnight programs are aimed at older children, but that didn't stop crewmembers from establishing a great rapport with mine.
I personally enjoyed the feeling of being out on the water with a salty breeze on my face, and the best view of Boston is the one you get with a deck beneath your feet. The Roseway has a fascinating history, and an important mission in her present and future. I would gladly go for a sail on her again!

We got last-minute reservations, and the two-hour Boston Harbor sail was beautiful. Fascinating family fun with brief opportunities for hands-on participation. Captain and crew were friendly, fun, and happy to answer questions. On-board drink and snack service were great too. Highly Recommended.

We enjoyed a lovely sail on the schooner Roseway on the evening of July 4th. The crew and captain were a great team and the ship fit us comfortably. The Boston harbor with sunset approaching is beautiful. If you get to the dock early you’ll have time to enjoy the seaport area that has many different choices for food and drinks. We’re happy we went aboard for this quiet sail and like the idea of supporting its admirable mission.

We sailed on the Roseway when it was doing Windjammer cruises in the early 1990's so it was great that it is now the World Ocean School. As in the original cruise we got to help hoist the sails on the way out and stow them on the way back. The crew were a pleasure to interact with and made the trip even more enjoyable.

We went on this with 6 other friends. What a wonderful way to experience Boston harbor, and get a sense of what it would take to sail in this fabulous vessel. It was especially nice to be part of some of the work in deploying the sails and such. Good time was had by all.

For an amazing adventure in Boston Harbor, book a cruise on Roseway! The crew is fantastic, the trip is educational, the food/drink is delicious and best of all, you are supporting The World Ocean School, Roseway's mission of helping under privileged youth learn teamwork and sailing skills. I highly recommend sightseeing around Boston Harbor on Roseway!!

What a great boat, crew, and organization. We booked a beer tasting sunset sail last summer and had a wonderful time. Even better, the proceeds went to a wonderful charity that promotes ocean awareness and personal development for city children. The boat is a national treasure and you can get a real feel for the life of a 19th century sailor. Wish I had brought a windbreaker and long pants, even in the middle of July on a sunny evening!

Great time aboard the Roseway on 8/30. Gorgeous ship, great crew. The crew is very personable and knowledgeable. Would definitely sail on the Roseway again. Hoping to make a Wine Down Wednesday sail.

Hi - did anyone sail in the rain? Booked at 4pm today for the Father's Day sail and it's calling for a lot of rain and I cannot reach anyone on the Roseway. We have two kids and an older grandparent and my gut tells me to save my tickets for another time as it looks like you can do that from the website. Has anyone had luck in using tickets for another time? TIA
