We've been trying to visit the Prescott House for a few years but it has a limited seasonal schedule and occasional closing on the touring Saturdays. We finally made it on 6/22 and it was well worth the wait to see the beautiful open interiors and decor. The guide provided detailed and excellent historic info on the origin, architecture, families who lived in the house and how the house changed over time. There are 5 floors but the tour shows only parts of the first 2 floors, and the 45-minute tour was really not long enough to go more in depth.

The museum was not too significant in its offering. Basically a look back into history and how the folks lived on the hill in the past generations. The interesting view point to me was that there were some significant folks in history who held these addresses and to think they lived right around the block from some prominent and even not so prominent African Americans was interesting within itself.

This house, located across from Boston Common on Beacon Street, had several notable residents during the 19th century, the most famous being William Hickling Prescott. Prescott was a historian who focused on the Spanish Empire and wrote several well-regarded books during his lifetime. The house is well-preserved, and tours are inexpensive.

My friend and I set out to visit the Freedom Trail and discovered this $7 tour of the house and history of the inhabitants. The tour guide Ed extremely knowledgable and passionate about the Prescott family and house. The house has been taken care of well and the three story staircase with art and furniture were impressively well preserved and clean. The stories were entertaining and the tour of the house was about the right length of just under one hour. Definitely worth a stop in to go back roughly 200 years!

Went on the tour of this wonderful Federal house today. Our guide, Cynthia, was clearly totally in love with this house and its story. The house is full of wonderful architecture, furniture, amazing clothing of so many eras (the accessories alone are beyond belief)...not to mention the stories of the interesting people who called this house home. Hard-core history buffs have to see the study of William Hickling Prescott. Thanks to the Colonial Dames of America for preserving this house and keeping it open for folks to tour. I hope those with an interest in history will stop by for a visit -- it's surely worth it.
