This was a nice place to stop and stretch our legs passing through Topeka. I bet it’s beautiful when in full bloom. We walked over the bridge, took some nice pics. If you’re traveling with kids, the carousel, playground & zoo would make for a nice afternoon

My wife and I took a half hour or so to walk around Gage Park. We attempted to find the 'fitness loop,' but found no signage identifying the loop. We walked a concrete that went by a cemetery, the front of the zoo, and the rose garden - not sure if that was the 'fitness loop' or not - signage would be helpful. Nonetheless, it was a sunny day that afforded us an opportunity to stretch our legs before continuing our drive on I70.

Our little chihuahua had been cooped up all day b/c of a track meet and was ready to get some air. Gage Park is a gorgeous place with playgrounds, a mini-gauge railway, the Zoo, what appeared to be a swimming pool/water park, and many other things. We walked and walked and just enjoyed a beautiful crisp Kansas day. Lots of people out walking, children playing, dogs chasing squirrels and the like.

I went with my daughter 2 year old grandson and a 3 year old friend of the family the other day and although the zoo was very pretty and clean, I was disappointed in the lack of visual animals. This is the 2nd time I have taken grandkids and not particularly happy in the last year. I know they're not always going to be interacting, but there is a number of empty cages. I'm sure the littles didn't mind as they loved seeing the ones they did.
The zoo is the perfect size for little ones, they can walk and interact and not have to be totally confined to a stroller.

Traveling through Topeka on a hot summer's day and looking for a place to unwind. We found Gage Park to be just the place. It's a large park with something for everyone - playground, picnic areas, horse shoes, gardens, softball, etc. Additionally, the 10th Avenue side of the park faces an outdoor mall with restaurants, grocery store and drugstore - perfect for travelers to pick up a meal and then relax in the park. The local zoo is also located within this park. What a great space for Topeka to have.

Lots of fun to do. Zoo, Japanese Garden, Rose garden, Koi pond with gorgeous seasonal plantings & blooms. Miniature train, playgrounds, Quiet places in shade. Super playgrounds. Picnic areas. Water park and pool. Fishing pond. Ice skating pond. Children's theatre. Amphitheatre for outdoor concerts. Dog park. Horseshoes. Updated shelters for reunions and receptions. Children's camps. It's a Shangri La in the city.

Love this park. It is well maintained and all of the dog owners i have met there were very responsible, picking up poop and policing the area very well. There was no trash or garbage laying about and frisky dogs were reeled in by their owners quickly. As for my previous comment, I feel that if you are a citizen of this country you owe it to the US to learn the language. To me its disrespectful to post a review in a foreign language in the middle of the United States. Thank you

Taking a early spring walk then Gage Park is the place to go. Interesting to see how much of the vegetation is starting to blossom.

Gage Park is good for walking, small time fishing, the train ride (don't forget to scream loud when it goes through the tunnel); there's a dog park and the drinking fountains never work. So if you bring your kids or grand kids, bring water.

Sorry for the delayed response.. no there aren’t but you can drive few mins to Wanamaker Road where you can find varieties / range of restaurants and also different tastes..

Its an open park, with operating restrictions on Carousel, train and zoo as all of these are within the park.
All of these are till 9am to 5pm.

It is open from 6 a.m. to 11 pm. The roses were just starting to bloom when we were there May 7 and should be beautiful by June.

I agree that June and July are the best months for the roses, but I love going in the fall when it's cooler, too. I'm not allowed to link websites here, but check out the Shawnee County Parks and Rec Official Website for more information. :)

Reinisch Rose Garden and Doran Rock Garden is a garden located in Gage Park, at 4320 SW 10th Avenue, Topeka, Kansas.
The Reinisch garden features 400 varieties of roses with over 6,500 plants. It is one of 23 test gardens in the United States for hybridizers, and officially designated for its All-America Rose Selections. Peak blooming times are late May into early June, and early to mid-September. Adjacent is the Logan Test Garden, a reflecting pool and the Doran Rock Garden.
