Our pilot Phil was a fantastic tour guide and experience pilot. He pointed out all the sights, joked around and gave us a little taste of aurobatics. The plan is a 1990 Wako, but it's build to spec like the 1930's model. It was a like flying in history! My boyfriend is a pilot and loved this tour, as did I. The open cockpit is awesome! Wow does that wind really blow when you put your arm out the side! I would suggest bringing a camera of your own.
They sell video for $45 using a GoPro hero (aka the first ever model of GoPro 960p or 1080p). The quality is low and they definitely should upgrade to a newer 4K model. I bought the video and it still lovely. However, I also brought and nice DSLR camera & my cell phone and they worked great!

Phil is indeed fantastic and VERY experienced! Glad you enjoyed the flight and yes, it's a good idea to stay tucked behind the windshield during the flight as it's about 100 mph breeze if you hold any body parts out! Appreciate the advice about upgrading to a newer go-pro and that is in the works for next year. Thanks so much for joining us and the helpful tips about the flight, hope to see you again next time you're in the area....

Everyone we dealt with was great and very professional. My son and I were scheduled to go up on a Wednesday afternoon and the weather forecast was not looking good. They called us several hours ahead of time to see if we could come earlier. Unfortunately, we were over 45 minutes away and by the time we got there a storm came through. They were great about rescheduling us for the next day. Again the weather looked a little iffy on Thursday afternoon and we received a call asking if we could come earlier. Fortunately, this time, we were able to show up earlier than planned. As we got there, the biplane was just getting back from a flight. We were so excited. We were introduced to our pilot Phil whose was great. While in the air Phil points out things of interest as well as telling you of the history of the area. We chose to take the Barnstormer north tour, which flies over Jockey's Ridge, the Wright Brother's Museum and the beaches. If you think the area looks beautiful from the ground, it looks even more spectacular from the air. The plane flies so smooth, we could've stayed up there for hours. My 20 year old son said it was one of the coolest things he has ever done. We are looking forward to getting back up there to do the south tour next. It truly was a great experience and the people at OBX Biplanes were a pleasure to deal with. I highly recommend this business!

Many thanks for joining us, and for your flexibility with scheduling! We've had our fair share of weather lately, but it's always worth the wait to soar the skies over the beautiful Outer Banks and we're glad you enjoyed it! Phil is a fountain of knowledge about the area, and loves to point things out to customers who have never seen the area from the air. While the northern route is the most popular, the southern stretch over Wanchese and Oregon Inlet is beautiful too, look forward to taking you both that way next time. We really appreciate all your kinds words, thanks so much for joining us!

The sunset flight with my wife and Phil our pilot in the Waco was incredible! A romantic adventure! You could feel Phil's enthusiasm and passion for flying! Flying over the Wright Brothers Memorial in a biplane, It awed us!
I flew with Larry in the T-6 Texan the next morning early. Opt for the acrobatics, my first time, forget your fears, if I can do it so can you! The OBX is a beautiful place. Fly early or late. What an adventure in a beautiful place! Thanks to Phil, Larry, and Stephanie for an experience that will never be forgotten. Rick

You certainly had the best of both worlds with the double flying adventure! We sure appreciate you joining us, and glad you enjoyed both Phil and Larry as your pilots. I had a blast riding in the T-6 Texan! A one of a kind experience that isn't available everywhere. I chose the $449 30-minute flight (that includes aerobatics) and I absolutely loved it! I think WWII era planes are the coolest out there and if you do too, I couldn't recommend this more. Totally worth the cost! Doing some wing-overs at 5000ft in the air was one of the coolest things I've ever experienced.
My family and I also took the $130 10-minute Helicopter tour (up to 3 people) and my 6-year-old loved every moment of it! Next time we are in the area we will be taking a ride in the Biplane for sure! My 6-year-old can't wait, and neither can I!

So glad you enjoyed both trips! The Texan indeed is a one of a kind experience, and glad you liked the optional aerobatics, too. And we loved taking the family up in the helicopter - it's perfect for kids with big bubble windows at every seat. We will be saving you a couple seats in the open cockpit biplane next trip - thanks so much for looking us up!

Excellent experience. My two sons (16 and 13) did the 30 minute ride and loved it. Highly recommend it. The pilot was very experienced and knowledgeable. The staff was extremely friendly. Would definitely do it again.

It's not often you get a chance to flight in a prop-driven biplane so you gotta take it when you do. It's a bit pricey ($200 for 20 minutes for 2 people), but so worth it. You get a loop of the outer banks along nags head to kitty hawk. It's beautiful and the uniqueness of feeling the wind blow past your face is awesome. The pilot was beyond friendly and described everything perfect. An experience I'll remember for my whole life.

It is definitely a one of a kind experience, flying in an open cockpit biplane over the birthplace of aviation! You had such a beautiful day to fly, and we have to agree that there's nothing like being 'out in the open' on the flight - it's like the perfect cross of riding a motorcycle and driving in a convertible. OBX Biplanes is simply amazing! This was the best experience in the Outer Banks. My 9 year old and I decided to try something adventurous and gave Steph Ihle a call at OBX Biplanes. She bent over backwards to accommodate our tight schedule and even asked our pilot Phil Webb to come back to the airfield after he left, which he did happily! This was absolutely a great experience. Phil was amazing. He walked the plane with us, took photos, explained everything before, during and after the flight to ensure our first flight met our expectations. Well, it far exceeded anything we expected. This is an absolute must when visiting OBX and OBX Biplanes is company to provide the perfect adventure, without question. Well done OBX Biplanes. See you next year!

My girlfriend and I flew OBX air tour adventures and it was one of the best times we ever had! Our pilot was Phil and he was super nice and friendly. The flight was so smooth and extremely fun. We only did the 10 to 13 minute flight but next time we come back we are definitely doing a longer one. You will not be disappointed with this experience!

This is about as much fun and excitement as you can get in a twenty minute period. The flight was smooth and to see how nature has shaped the Outer Banks is awesome. You cannot get the same perspective on the ground. When you are in the air you can see the forest, the sand dunes, the expansive beaches and the interesting architecture in the buildings. The whole organization is very professional.

Level of difficulty getting in and out of the plane? My father wants to do this. His mobility is not fantastic. TIA

They use a standard step ladder alongside the rear cockpit that you climb, then there is a fixed footstep on the fuselage that allows you to step into the seat.
I guess it really depends on his level of mobility and what you guys are comfortable with, but Larry and his team are extremely helpful and I’m sure they would have no problems with assisting and accommodating your needs.
I’d say go for it! A fantastic experience at a breathtaking location
