A great NPS historic site seeing the birthplace and childhood home of US President Teddy Roosevelt and lots of displays about his early life.

The Theodore Roosevelt Birthplace National Historic Site is a remarkable and fitting replica of the birthplace and child hood home of President Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th President of the United States.

In March Of 2018, I brought my wife and myself for a visit and guided tour of the Theodore Roosevelt Birthplace. Our tour guide did a wonderful job on detailing President Roosevelt’s childhood experience, and discussing the history and development of Roosevelt’s Birthplace.

Our tour guide also discussed and highlighted the furniture and other furnishings that were likely used by the Roosevelt’s in the 19th century.

Both my wife and I very much enjoyed our time and experience at the Theodore Roosevelt Birthplace. If you are an avid reader of history and an admirer Theodore Roosevelt’s, then you should definitely take the time to visit and explore the Theodore Roosevelt Birthplace!!!

「セオドア ルーズベルト生誕の地」はダウンタウンの一画、裏通り沿いにあります。大きな建物ではありませんが、合衆国旗が掲げられておりすぐにわかりました。マンハッタンの街に溶け込むような光景でした。

I've read biographies of Teddy and visited his Sagamore home so there wasn't much I hadn't heard before. My husband knew only a little and he thought it was a great tour - especially since it was free!
They do have junior ranger books there which are a great way for your kids to learn something and earn a badge from the National Park System.
It's a shame they never restored the 3rd floor where Teddy kept his collections.

I visited the Theodore Roosevelt Birthplace National Historic Site on 4 March 2020 at 3:40 in the afternoon, which seems to have been the perfect time as there were very few people and I had time to look at the items in the gallery before taking the 4 o’clock tour. The gallery includes photographs of TR’s life, some of his best quotes, explanations of his family history, as well as artifacts including family drinking ware, the last pen TR used as President, and election memorabilia. The Park Ranger who led the tour was very informative and clearly passionate about the history of TR and could relate him to other historic sites in New York City as well as National Park sites throughout the country. He led us from room to room, giving examples of what kind of events occurred there (such as the founding of the Natural History Museum in the parlor), and discussing how these events would have impacted a young Theodore Roosevelt and influenced his later policies. For a relatively small site, the TR Birthplace has a lot to offer and is a fantastic place to learn about one of the most popular Presidents!

Whether you enjoy Victorian furnishings or American history, this entertaining and free museum offers both! You get to see Teddy Roosevelt's early life with a tour of several rooms, as well as artifacts from his entire life, including the folded speech and glasses case that saved his life from an assassin's bullet. They even have the bullet!

First of all, this home is not exactly where Roosevelt was born. It’s the right location but the original brownstone was torn down in 1916 when the neighborhood became commercial. The house was rebuilt in 1919 and made to look as it did in the 1860s. As best they could at least. There is a small museum that hits the wave tops of his life with some interesting artifacts like his speech and glasses case that stopped an assassin’s bullet. He talked for almost 90 minutes after the failed assassination attempt. Bully indeed. The exhibits are accompanied by many great Roosevelt quotes that are just as applicable one hundred years later. The tour is free and takes about 45 minutes.

There is no fee to enter. Access to the upper floors is by tour. We arrived about 15 minutes before a scheduled tour and were able to get on the tour. Camera bags are not permitted on the tour, but there are locked boxes available to store the bags in. The tour is worth it - the guide was very informative, detailing Roosevelt's family and early life. And also explaining the history of the house and each room. The tour is about 45 minutes, but there is no place to sit during the tour as all of the chairs date back to Roosevelt's time in the house or are specific to that period. The basement of the house does have an area that is self guided as well as a film where seating is available.

It's basically just a room with very interesting facts about Teddy Roosevelt. There's a video playing in the room in the back as well that I didn't watch. Not sure if they offer tours as well but it was a fun a quick little activity

The story of how this replica came to be is fascinating in and of itself. The tour guide was exceptionally knowledgeable and concisely set the historical background for TR and the building itself. The furnishings, most of which are original to the family, are quite interesting. Informative gallery and film complement the house.
