I first went to David Segal's shop last Monday where I tried out bows for nearly two hours. It was a lot of fun--I had never played on so many bows so it really blew my mind how different my violin sounded from bow to bow. I left with two bows to try at home for the week, going back earlier today to purchase one.
I couldn't have been more thrilled with my experience at David Segal Violins. Diane's mix of friendliness and top-tier expertise made it such a fun, interesting, and educational experience. I wasn't rushed or pressured, if anything, quite the opposite!
I have already recommended several people make appointments and will definitely be going back whenever I need anything. Make an appointment and go--you will not regret it!

The manager is extremely knowledgeable about all of the instruments and bows she is selling, and David, the owner, is an absolute master with string instruments.
This is not really a casual walk-in type of place if you're looking for an instrument - but if you take the time to set an appointment, you will get the full attention of the staff as she helps you pick out an instrument or bow that fits your personal style and suits your needs.

I am hoping to sell my beautiful cello, so I was thrilled when I came upon this shop by accident. They made a few minor repairs to the instrument and had one of their experts play it; he loved it. Based on his review, they've farmed it out to a number of prospective buyers over the past four months, and one of these days, I'm expecting it to sell. In the meantime, they've always welcomed me back whenever I stop in to hear about my cello's whereabouts. And whenever I'm in the shop, I always notice that they are giving a great deal of time and advice to some (usually young) musician. They make me sorry to be giving up my instrument, but I'm glad to know that it will be in good hands, both with David Segal's shop and, soon, with a new owner.

As a violin teacher in CT, I rely on David Segal violins for their quality instruments, honest pricing and amazing service for my students. Their efforts enable our students to have better instruments for their study without breaking the bank. Diane is truly a gem!

My daughter is in her 3rd year of Suzuki violin, and we have gotten two violins from David Segal. If you are patient, they will really take their time with you and find the instrument that suits you best. So many violins, repairs done on the spot, old-world craftsmanship, I could go on. Incredible that it's just down the street. Lincoln Center and Julliard around the corner. Kind of gives me goosebumps. Move to the suburbs? No thanks.

We had a great experience violin hunting for my son's 1st full-size violin here. Diane, the manager, was very accommodating and helpful in the search, and we never felt rushed or pushed in any way. The shop has excellent set-ups in their mid-range violins, as our teacher noted on the violin we took home on trial. The whole shop has a warmth you can sense - I felt very comfortable there. And they have a great range of instruments in many price ranges.
The shop is recommended by many teachers, and I can see why.

This place sucked. Nobody should ever come to this place. They shouldn't even be selling instrument with their attitude. They think they know everything, and I don't have problem with that, but don't give the attitude that customer don't know anything.

A great place to buy new and used violins, string, accessories. Very friendly and malleable to my personal needs. I would highly recommend this shop to not only serious musicians but anyone interested in purchasing a violin, viola or cello or upgrading their current instruments or bows.
