My Husband and I recently got a $40 massage. Everyone was nice and I somewhat enjoyed my massage. When we were leaving we walked through reception and there were 5 staff members waiting to harrass us for a tip. They said we needed to give them an extra $40 (50%) as a tip. We gave them $20 cash as that's all we had on us and one of the workers on the couch started yelling at us demanding the money. We were told that we would have to pay that if we went to restaurants, I disagreed and told them 50% was very unreasonable. We were told that this was an American spa (we are Australian) so we should know this. They told us the price was normally $120 therefore the tip was based on this which was ridiculous. Way too aggressive!!! Don't go there!!!

The massage is so good! They are famous for shiatsu which is walking on your body! When your back is tight this is what you need to get! Also they do lots of work on your shoulder I had lots of knot and it hurt so my therapist gave me combination of shiatsu and deep tissue! I felt so good after the massage and also they have promotion right now so it was great deal! They said they usually charge $120 for one hour but it's $40 an hour from 9 a clock to 6 a clock! You need to go to this place if you need good massage and also you have back problems! Since that day I go to this spa twice a week! They are so good and I am glad I found them!

We tried it because they were advertising how good they are and they offer a sale for new customers. We are used to deep tissue massage but never expected to be walked on your back instead. They used their feet to step on your back instead of using their hands. The therapists were useless making excuses that we were stiff and needed to come back. When I complained that she did not massaged my aching shoulders and trapezius muscles she said that I did not tell her. But she was stepping and walking on my back, using her feet instead of massaging my back with her hands. Plus she is the therapist, she should know where the knots and stiff muscles . Worst they asked you for 50% tip of the amount they charge you for the massage and they are like piranhas asking you to pay first even before they do the feet walk on your back and legs. Please do not get trapped in this crap. They should close this bs business. Corrupt people.

For close to 30 years this place has been my go-to spot for all thins comfort: mind, body and spirit... I started at the original 56th street location after having been tripped off by my ballerina friends at the joffrey and never looked back. The full body scrub followed by the soaking and shiatsu progression is unique and incomparable. The departure is the worst since the Nirvana can't last forever. Like and magic lover's touch, Osaka ruined me for any other!

I have been coming to this spa for years, they used to have another location on 56th street as well but it has since closed. the facility is coed as far as the steam room and saunas go. dressing rooms are separated by gender. you can have couple massages or go with your best friend and get massages side by side. get ready for the best massage you have ever experiences. you keep shorts on and they will perform accupressure through a towel on your body first and then start walking on you. I always feel like a float out of there. best stress relieve ever. you must like japans designs as this is not a flashy spa. they have a dr there too for acupuncture and herbal medicine. highly recommend. this spa has been visited by presidents and celebs.

Living in Manhattan 30 years and a habitue of both Osaka locations, I prefer West 56th. Both venues provide two hours of escape - starting with steam bath, hot/cold plunge then sauna. in private, you choose the level of intensity (signal with verbal objection/body tension) for shiatsu. Other, swedish, massage is great but probably not as fine a swedish massage as may be had in Stockholm. It's romantic, private, quiet - a wonderful delirium may encompass for an hour or two after the session. highly recommended.

My wife and I came across this spa just by perusing the streets of Midtown NYC. The place was very authentic, quiet and relaxing. The four workers were all Asian and the two younger ones spoke perfect English. The older man spoke good English.
I'd had several massages in my life and the 20 minute shiatsu massage ($20/each) was unlike anything I've had before. My wife and I paid $75 for this massage and I also tried the ionic foot bath detox ($35) to see if it really works. Well, my kidneys were hurting a lot that day from drinking too much coffee and being dehydrated. Combined with the massage, I felt excellent and most of all relaxed.
The old man informed me that I should cut down on meat consumption since its fermenting in my gastrointestinal tract. A Baxter trained natropath told me the same thing several years ago. The old man said that I should practice yoga and cut back on meat. He never tried to push supplements, etc.
All of the staff seemed well informed on thier trained profession, but were also authentic in the sence of being holistic, not salesmen, etc. A very wholesome experiance and once again -- authentically relaxing. You wouldn't know you were in Midtown!
So, while everyone is familiar with Manhattan's famous Central Park, I'd describe this place as Midtown's Secret Garden.

I will NOT be returning.
The treatment I received was neither Acu-pressure, nor Shiatsu, both of which I am familiar with.
I walked in with a stiffness and pain in my neck. I walked out with that, as well as an aching back.
When I requested a 10minute head and neck massage, I was NOT anticipating or desiring someone to jump up and down on my lower back, or attempt to beat my sides.
I will NOT be returning.

This place- while authentic and with a fine massage- is the most crooked joint in manhattan. We signed up for a 1hr shiatsu massage, which only lasted 20 minutes. The staff lied to our faces and spoke english only when it benefitted them [like demanding the $240]. For the first time in my life, I am taking someone to small claims court... I feel taken advantage of. I would not recommend this place to anyone, and in fact, I have told all of my friends at TONY and NY Mag how horrible we were treated. I get massages 1X/week and find it humerous that they tried to pass off a 20 minute massage for an hour- my watch does not lie. And beware of the little creepy speaking man who comes into your room after the 20 minutes is up... he mumbled nonsense and made us very uncomfortable. PLEASE BEWARE!

The most amazing, talented, thorough massage ever made. There are 3 levels of massage - swedish/hot oil (for beginners), swedish/shiatsu combination (medium), and shiatsu/accupressure (for the experts...).
Amazing. you will walk out of there feeling like butter.... And they have beautiful facilities (both locations) - with hot/cold tubs and wet/dry saunas. Enjoy!
