We come here. In the “before coronavirus times” and the new ownership, you could rely on getting some mediocre, satisfying late-night bar food. It far exceeded the quality of our last purchase there: the roast beef sandwich. The bread was stale. The meat was dry and tough. Almost inedible. 18 dollars.

This is an awesome place to gather with your friends and have either a few or 15 drinks. Everybody in the place is mellow and doing the same thing, so you will have company. I think they stopped serving food a few years ago, so when it’s time to move on there are lots of options close by. It’s a typical Greenwich Village bar from 1940 .... just as good now as it was then.

My wife dragged me here to get out if the freezing cold, and glad she did. West Village, plenty of locals, and has a cosy feel. Happy hour 4-7 on wine and beer. The bar staff had a great soundtrack of various genres playing which helped the atmosphere. Just hit the spot for us.

Have been here in the past and had a great time. Found out it is under new ownership and you can sure tell. Manager is rude and clearly has no business sense or people skills. A shame for this bar with a great history.

Lots of character and Dylan Thomas memorabilia. Slightly let down by the plastic furniture and food. Friendly staff and some interesting patrons.

Historic Greenwich Village bar from 1920’s that is now an ordinary hangout for neighborhood types and occasional tourists. Limited food menu in second room but this place is really about the bar. It is still a “live” neighborhood bar but that’s about all.

The White Horse Tavern is famous for one very unique visitor, the poet Dylan Thomas. It is an interesting place and met some very interesting people whilst we enjoyed a nice cold drink at the bar. We didn't eat here but happy that we popped by and had a drink here. Real mix of people here and fun to sit at the bar and just relax after a long day of walking around.

well I used to eat there while in nyc and I decided to bring my friend that was her first time in nyc to have some lunch... the food was not bad but people there are snob and they don't accept credit cards... you can only pay cash... never again.

Nothing super special about the menu. It's been here forever, though, and worth a trip- especially if you're interested in NYC's literary history.

I dearly love the White Horse Tavern and not just because of its history. As Faulkner wrote, "The past is never dead. It's not even past." Yes, Dylan Thomas took his last drink there. Brendan Behan was a patron and in the 1980's young playwrights and poets like Sam Shepherd hung out there. What attracts me to the White Horse is the same thing that must have attracted all of those names years ago. It's the quality of the conversation. I can walk in off the street and have a serious conversation about Eugene O'Neill with someone I've never met before and end up feeling as if that person is an old friend. It's a magical place.
