No signage that I found, but the organic structure just beckons you to go investigate. Very moving monument, and the fact that it is so different than the architecture around it makes it unique. Glad I happened upon this when I was strolling.

This is one of my favorite monuments worldwide. The peace and tranquillity I feel here is like no other. Famine is a horror. Worse still, a man made famine. There was no need for so many to die in Ireland in 1845-47. There was food, but it was exported. Money came before lives. Situated where it is, near Wall Street, is important. May it tell every visitor that business & finance must be managed responsibly. Actions have consequences - in all spheres of live. Thank you to those who imagined to put this monument here. It inspires me in its powerful ordinariness. Good kind Spirits live here.

I had no idea this existed in New York. My son suggested I visit. The memorial is like stepping into an Irish cottage devastated by the Famine. Interesting find and thought provoking

Beautiful, poignant, somber and beautifully out of place.
I have wanted to visit this site for years and was not disappointed. Very different from most memorials I have seen or visited. The grass park and stone cottage are beautiful and beautifully incongruous in the location amidst the high rise bustle of lower Manhattan. The quotes and statistics on the walls of the memorial remind us that famine is rarely a natural phenomenon resulting form a lack of food but more often a result of greed, power and lack of empathy.
Take a few quiet minutes and reflect quietly. Remember there are still places and peoples who need our support and empathy just as the Irish did in the 1840s.

What did I expect? Statues of suffering Irish people, I think. Not that. Not anything like that. From a distance it is startlingly low amid the tall buildings and in the month of March very drab. Brown grass and grey stone walls. Not a single tree although it is referred to as a park. Fantastically out of place. And then you walk around to the river side and read the quotes on the wall and walk thru the ruins of a stone house up to a view of the river. My husband was unimpressed. I read as many of the quotes as he gave me time for and started to cry. Many quotes concern the specifics of the famine in the mid-1800's. Others are about how to respond to hunger and its meaning in our current era. I thought of Ukraine and all the countries who depended on Ukrainian farmers. The overall message is quite complex and nuanced with much left up to the viewer. The property in that location must be worth millions and millions. I have such respect for the people who conceived of it and made it happen. If I lived in New York City, I suspect I would make it an annual pilgrimage site.

Found in Rockefeller Park, this is worth a visit to reflect on the hardships people faced that drove them to find a new life an ocean away.

I have walked by this park many times and finally stopped. I am glad I did. It is very pretty with flowers and a great place to stop and take pictures.

The Irish Hunger Memorial is not just a gorgeous little green-space on the banks of the Hudson, but a place of quiet reflection. It feels like a bit o’ Ireland with authentic stoneworks, flora, and even a recreated cottage. As you walk along the paths, there are famine statistics, quotes and poems displayed on the walls. It’s both beautiful and somber. I highly recommend a visit to the Irish Hunger Memorial.

I’m not sure why it is exactly here, but from a distance it caught my eye as something very old and worth seeing!
It’s a reproduction but upon entering you will find it very well done and it looks and feels the period.
Fantastic views and well worth visiting if you’re in Battery Park City.

What time does this open? Google says 11 am. Is that accurate?

The information we found listed hours open and closed, but we went after 5, and it was still open. I don’t see how they could ‘close’ it, because there’s not really a gate or such. Free admission, of course.

It is not open yet - tentatively April or May - but repairs often take longer than expected.
