Have been to the Mutter Museum at least 4 times but my husband had not. So it was his turn. We loved it and the changing exhibits (this time about Polio and the Iron Lung) was most informative. Met a worker there, nice guy, don't remember name, he showed up the Library/classroom/ballroom and he explained the history. Very interesting. It makes you thankful for good health.

What a unique place! My dad worked here in college and recommended I go when I was in Philly for a conference. I took my collegue/friend and we "enjoyed" it. I put quotes becuase it was not exactly enjoyable, but it was interesting and definitely worth the visit. Be ready for bizarre and only visit if you are ok with body parts in jars, lots of skeletons, and lots of odd fetuses. I was thankful that the people visiting were all quite respectful and there was an air of genuine curiosity.

This was a great museum. Exhibits were well interpreted, engaging, and respectful. I also appreciated how they asked visitors to interact with displays and leave thoughts/comments. The Homelessness and Health exhibit was also very effective. I’d say appropriate for ages 13 and up.

Prior to going I read reviews on here and cannot agree the place was ghoulish. I found it very interesting to see though I knew due to work, the previous healthcare procedures and tools used. Even procedures like radiation, providing treatment are so much better and the many weird things that occur such as conjoined twins are there to see; skulls from deceased and how they passed, body organs and diseases all very interesting. One important note is from our home to the museum was so easy to get there and to park. Great opportunity if you can take it. I cannot provide photos as they are disallowed.

A really interesting place for anyone, except those who get queasy looking at dead bodies. Particularly great for anyone interested in biological sciences.

You just have to see it all to believe it.
This may be a small museum, but there is lots in it.
Pre-book to assure entrance.
Nice garden out back.

This museum was very interesting to me. I have a medical background and understood all the descriptions and specimens shown. I highly recommend it for medical professionals. If you do not have a medical background it might be hard to understand some of the descriptions, but I would still recommend this museum. Parking is tricky you'll have to park in a lot or garage around the area. Would not recommend kids as they talk too much/loud and this is an educational environment and will distribute others. Unfortunately there were a ton of kids and loud people who ruined some of the experiences. I also recommend getting your ticket in advance. I was lucky and got a ticket at the opening, but 2 people behind me had to wait.

Wow!! Absolutely phenomenal! Specimens of every abnormality, deformation, ailment, and birth defect you can think of. Very educational, thought provoking, and beyond interesting. Just go!

Before making this a destination, do more research than I did to ensure it's what you really want to do. I thought it would be interesting (it was) but hoped it would be more informative than I found it to be. It seemed like a long ago snap-shot of the state of medical knowledge for a long-ago era. It was illuminating of that era. If you want a more current insight into medical science, anatomy, birth defects, traumatic injuries, disease process, etc., you need to look elsewhere. It was a little challenging and tedious to properly see many displays due to the relatively dim lighting and the stooping required to see details and read the explanatory information. (Maybe the lighting was intentional to preserve the specimens?) You have to give respect for the knowledge that was being accumulated during the time the specimens were collected. Admittedly, I was a little short on patience so was done within a couple hours.
Staff were excellent and getting into and out of the museum was no problem insofar as ticketing, etc. We found parking in a small lot around the corner, behind the museum. We took the last space but it worked out.

WOW! Just WOW! Once I walked in, I didn’t want to leave. So many things to see…so many skulls and body parts in jars, things only doctors usually get a chance to see. Things I’ll never forget, like the soap lady and the Siamese twins. And I never saw a real appendix before, like the one I had that ruptured when I was a kid and almost died from. Now I have. Mutter! There’s no place like it! Go! Once you walk in, you won’t want to leave either. This was definitely the highlight of my Philly trip! I’m just surprised more people don’t know about this place.

Are there any other attractions or museums in walking distance? I’d like to make a day of it

The Barnes Foundation and next to it the Rodin Sculpture Museum were both very good and just a bit north of the Mutter

Do I need to get tickets in advance for a weekday visit in September? Don't know if they limit the number of people.

I don’t believe so. We visited in peak vacation season over the Fourth of July holiday and were able to get in without a problem by just walking in. I don’t know if they have a daily limit or not.

We spent about three hours there. I read every single description and story they provided and lingered over several of the artifacts. The whole place is fascinating.

Hi Lisa! What time of day did you go? We are planning a Saturday visit which I am regretting after reading your review. We won't get there until after 2pm so we are thinking it won't be as crowded.

Like I said it's not for everyone. I notice your from Gettysburg when I went I think they had a special event dealing with civil war injuries I don't know if that runs all the time. It is crowded but it moves I went about 3ish after the zoo. I'll just be quick and explain : in the civil war section they had on display a shattered wrist bone where it was hit with a musket ball. I hope you enjoy it when you go just because I may not have liked it doesn't mean you won't either

How large are the lockers? Can a backpack fit in them? Thank you for your time.
撰写日期:2017年8月8日
I put my medium size back pack and my daughter put her drawstring bag into the same locker so unless you have a huge hiker pack there should no be no problem with the lockers.

Photography is not allowed in the main museum galleries due to the sensitive nature of the collection. Visitors may take photos in the main lobby (there is a 'selfie station') plus the art gallery and the medicinal garden.

1- to 2 hours is probably fine. Although the museum is small it is very reading intensive. How engaging different exhibits are will depend on the visitor. I would also suggest bringing a magnifying glass with you. It can really help. And I agree with Carl B--light clothing and comfortable shoes.

Is there parking on premises for this museum? If so, is it free? If not, what would you suggest in the way of parking for visitors?
撰写日期:2015年8月5日
There is not. There are parking garages within walking distance. Price varies depending on the length of time that you leave your car.
