Small, but really interesting

I was previously only vaguely aware of the Quaker movement and this meeting house was an interesting find. It teaches you a lot about the philosophy and at the same time breathes the air of history and contemporary Quaker culture alike.

Amazing history, amazing hosts

Visited this unassuming yet fascinating museum that was a real eye opener to the role Quakers played in the building of Philadelphia and the founding of our nation. The staff were kind, friendly and super knowledgeable.

Learn something!!

This is a beautifully maintained building with a lot of history on and under it. There are daily tours of the building and the grounds. Go and learn about the mass burial site for victims of a yellow fever outbreak and the famous Quakers who worshipped there. This is just oh-so Philadelphia!!

Worthwhile 30 minute stop

Not the most exciting place to see but worth a stop because you can learn a great deal about the Quaker religion and the role it has played in US History. The meeting hall chamber dates from the early 1800’s and it is all original furnishings including the pews and cushions. The hall also has educational signage on how a Quaker service works and some historical dioramas on William Penn and his life. Worth a stop on the walk from the Christ Church graveyard to Betsy Ross’s house or Christ Church.

Enlightening!

Very interesting visit that was made more meaningful by a member of the Quaker community. I learned so much about the impact of this community on the early history of the colonies, slavery, and women’s rights. Very glad we went inside!

William Penn and his Quaker friends meeting house. Interesting if nothing else. Lots of things I never knew took place in this meeting area. Not too much to read about this in this area. But the internet has a lot to read.

This area is dedicated to the quakers. William Penn was an English Quaker settled Philadelphia. This meeting house is in walking distance from Independence hall. Get a walking map from the visitors center.
