Cool market. We were there on a Sunday about an hour before it was supposed to close and most of the places were closed. Plan to go earlier in the day. Many of the places aren’t Italian.

This was our second time walking the Italian market having been in April. Went early on a Friday morning (10:30). Found parking on a side street no problem. No crowds which allowed us to enjoy sampling cheese at our favorite place (DiBruno's). Picked up some great butcher meat where the prices were incredible! It feels like you are stepping back in time when walking the narrow sidewalks and seeing the real butchers, fishmongers and other merchants working. Yes, there are boxes everywhere and yes, there are some "trinket" places spattered through. But we loved the ambience, and we will definitely be back in a few months.

We stop here every time we travel to Philly. seems to be getting smaller and a little less "Italian" every time we go. Many other ethnic groups are moviing in as the Italians leave. Still a interesting place though.

The Italian Market! It’s an Icon of all things Italian. The food, butcher shops, bakeries, cheeses, fish, seafood and shops. It’s truly an experience to visit the market and enjoy all these things. I’ve been coming here for over 40 years, yes things change but be flexible and embrace them! When we left our arms were full of packages from the different shops.

We went to the Italian Market early we were there around 9:00 ish. Not a lot was open yet but we could explore sat is a wonderful coffee shop and they were so nice had good drinks and pastries. So many meat markets and fish vendors

Second time walking through the market. Fruit prices are just crazy cheap usually. Also got some pizza and pastas. Stopped and ate some gelato that was outstanding and also Farouk priced.

Had a great time at the Italian market....lots of great restaurants to choose from. Lots of history here.

When in the market, don't miss Goods Vintage, a popular shop for jewelry and crafts. Excellent service and very friendly staff. South Philly Barbacoa on 9th a few blocks down from Goods Vintage is a must for homemade tacos with delicious lamb and great service. The market is losing its Italian character but that is life.

Where's a good place to stay when visiting the market? Hoping to find a reasonably priced hotel that either includes parking or inexpensive parking within walking distance of the market.

There aren't any hotels in the immediate vicinity of the market. Perhaps an air BnB nearby?
The nearest hotels would be in Center City and parking would be at a premium.
It's only a short can ride or 20 minute walk from the South Street area.
There is a holiday inn further south by the sport stadiums where you can park but I would not recommend the place.

Yes, that's the one! The market is still there! Rocky (the statue) is not far away (like 15-minute ride) - near the Philadelphia Art Museum.
