Another thing that just has to be done in Philly. Just beside the Museum of Art where the iconic scene from the 1976 movie took place. Even after all these years people of all ages from everywhere still run up the steps of the museum as a tribute. Because it's Philly it just has to be done.

Okay it’s kind of cheesy but I was running by the Philadelphia art museum and just to the right at street level was a crowd. I ran by to see what the attraction was and there I was. This Rocky statue is easy to get to and a reminder of my youth. If you aren’t into it, you should skip it but if you have an extra three minutes and are nearby, just stop and take a selfie at a cultural icon.

Fun stop in Phila. There was a parking lot across the street that normally charges $15 but no one was collecting when we stopped.

A must stop in Philly because of its history. No cost to see it or take pics. Great for kids of all ages. There are often homeless people there that will offer to take your pics for you for a few dollars.

This was a cool stop, but it went totally over my kid's heads. Definitely worth it for a Rocky fan, but a bit out of the way if you aren't going to the Fine Art Museum.

Obviously the top thing to do in Philadelphia if you're a Rocky fan or not, our son loved running up the steps and getting his picture taken at the Rocky Statue. It's free, easy to find and a great photograph opportunity. There was a man selling Rocky t-shirts near it, so cool. Parking is closeby. We went Thanksgiving weekend, so it was super busy.

Wer den Rocky-Film gesehen hat, wird irgendwie enttäuscht sein, wenn man an der Statue steht. Ich empfinde Statuen, die gegenwärtige Persönlichkeiten nachahmen sollen, immer sehr schlecht gemacht. So auch die Rocky-Statue.
Ich hatte mich vorab nicht darüber informiert, wo genau die Statue bei den Treppen zu finden ist und war an für sich davon ausgegangen, dass diese sich auf dem obersten Treppenplateau befindet. Um so enttäuschter war ich, dass die Statue relativ abseits der Treppe zu finden war.
Ein wenig lieblos war dann mein Eindruck...

The line was long in the heat but there were people selling water, ice cream, and also gear along the way. It was fun to get some photos in front of the statue and fun to watch what people do when they stand in front of it! We took a few cool shots and then headed out. We climbed down the stairs after being in the museum and did not regret only climbing up a few since it was 100 degrees literally this day!

I finally got to visit Rocky and the famous steps he ran up while training for his fight. I just couldn't run up those steps like he did since I had a knee replacement and my running days are long gone. I did walk up those steps and enjoyed the same view he saw from the top.

Best Parking near the Museum/Rocky Statue

There's some parking behind the Philadelphia Museum of Art, but the Art museum is on a traffic circle and getting to the parking can be confusing if you're not familiar with the area. It's a stop in the Hop On Hop Off buses if you are thinking of doing one of those. The Rocky Statue is to the right of the "Rocky Steps" (the ones people run up like Rocky. There's a nice view straight down the Benjamin Franklin Parkway from the top of the steps. BTW, the Art Museum itself is world class.

Pay only in sweat and shortness of breath. Awesome view of the city. The statue is free too. But there's always a line. Parking is tough. There are meters along the parkway, and pay lots at the art museum and Franklin institute.
Is there anything going on on the rocky steps on August 15 2015 that would stop us from going on the steps? We tried back in May but they had it blocked off both Saturday and Sunday

We didn't stay in the city. We stayed in Horsham, where we were able to find a relatively inexpensive hotel that had free parking, breakfast, and wifi. It took us about 30 minutes to drive to Independence Park. If you have a car and you're willing to do a bit of driving, you might consider staying in one of the suburban towns just outside the city.
