Great views of NYC from the "first mountain" in New Jersey. The memorial is amazing too, very sad to see all the names of the people lost when the towers went down! Also, if you play Pokemon, there are a bunch of gyms here - and across the field from the memorial are some fun hiking trails through the wooded area.

Before 911 this was the "it" place to go for NYC views. Most incredible view ever for miles around. After 911 it was bitter sweet as it took way too long for the new building. Like 10 plus years of pure political BS. Now it became a true memorial, with blowing flags, memoriam plaques, pictures and more of the same. Still a great view, but the Twin Towers were the ultimate edifice of all time.

Located on a mountain ridge in the Eagle Rock Reservation in West Orange, NJ, the official Essex County, NJ Sept 11 memorial couldn't have been placed in a more moving location. The NYC skyline vista and all it conjures up about our national history is before you. Names of the fallen, our NJ brethren, ring the edge of the plateau. Plenty of parking so you can spend as much time as you wish, any time of year. We've brought friends and relatives through the years and it's always a special moment together, remembering.

NYC was not part of our itinerary for this road trip so it was nice to be able to see the city from New Jersey! To be able to visit an amazing September 11th Memorial was an added bonus. I especially appreciated the tribute to the Search and Rescue Dogs that worked so hard after the traumatic event.

Ethereal place to see magnificent fall foliage. Take a blanket, snacks and beverage choice. Music, read or view. Great for after school kids visit. Viet monument memorial too. Extra bonus - utterly magnificent view of NYC skyline on a clear day.

The Vista from this location misses nothing. You can see where the twin towers were positioned, and you can just imagine the scene after the first plane hit then the second and the building caving in. It is eerie but a beautiful place to feel some peace.

On a clear day you can see new Your City the best. The tribute to 911 is unbelievable. I grew up in West Orange and my friends and I and family spent alot of time there. The Highlawn Pavillion used to be an old casino many many years ago. It's got a lot of history there.

This memorial went up so fast after 911, that you could not believe the speed of it. Way before NYC even completed and agreed on their plans.Memorial pieces were continuously being added ever since. The fence, the names surrounded the view, the flags and other monuments, make this a very special and serene place. Knowing that before 911, this area was always crowded with couples, singles, weddings, kids, photographers and on and on- just to view the Twin Towers, at any point in the day, from sunrise to sunset. It was a magnificent sight to see and when you look now, you only imagine its spot and more. Totally free of charge too.

This is a fine local memorial commemorating the terrible event of 9/11. The stone fence at the edge contains the names of those lost, and there are several smaller statues for the police and firefighters as well. There is parking in the immediate area, and there is no admission fee. Benches are available as well as a gazebo. The view of the New York skyline is excellent on a clear day, and it gives pause to recall that awful day when the towers fell. A short walk away is the excellent Highlawn Pavilion for fine dining or a lunch and drink on the patio (with the same view).

As someone who is old enough to remember when the Twin Towers were completed in 1973, visited them and enjoyed the view of them from Eagle Rock, this Memorial is truly a World Class tribute to the lives that were taken on September 11, 2001. The various tributes are many and all are poignant. There are statues which incorporate a fire fighters helmet and a police officers hat. The names everyone who perished are carved along the wall. There is also a tribute to the canine assistants who aided in finding survivors; this is a statue of a dog which incorporates actual pieces of the Twin Tower wreckage in the piece.
All of the memorial is against the backdrop of the New York City skyline which includes the new World Trade Center building. A very powerful space.
