We attempted to walk out on Clatsop Spit, but although there is still parking nearby, much of the beach is blocked off/restricted due to reconstruction work on the jetty. We couldn't find a way to actually see the location where the Columbia enters the Pacific Ocean. We did enjoy walking on the beach farther to the east, and south of the jetty, but we were told that construction/reinforcing of the jetty will be in the works for several years, so we'll have to wait until then for better views.

Came on a very stormy, windy and rainy day. This place provides all the power of mother nature! The views of the very powerful ocean from the viewing platform was one I will not forget.

Take the time to go to the Clatsop Spit while your in Astoria or in the area. My wife and I spent a few hours just relaxing and taking in the beauty of God's Creation.

Interesting to me how they use these to control the flow of things. Lots of hidden creatures among these rather large rocks and driftwood pieces. Great views for photos.

Interesting spot to see. You can walk out to the spit to view it up close or stay by the parking area and use the lookout platform. The viewing platform is rickety -- swayed while we were standing on it. Views were nice and the weather was perfect.

Great views of the ocean. Fun fishing in the Columbia River. Great for sandcastle building. Picnic on the beach.

Clatsop Spit is really the whole entire sand until the Tillamook Head.
We had to hike first, when the ocean was calm.
However, when the winds come, it is tough! No one can walk then.
Worthwhile to see!

The views are amazing here. Be prepared to hold on if the wind is blowing good, when you climb onto the lookout. I was holding on for dear life, as I get motion sickness easily. It was worth the short climb up the rickety weather worn steps.

Hi, I am going to be in Astoria for a day, arriving on a cruise on Sept. 29th. I am interested in visiting the observation platform, but cannot discern whether this is possible with my window (8 am- 5 pm), and what would be the best way to get there. Any information would be greatly appreciated! (:

The views are awesome and you get to see the landscape even from the car park at the base of the tower never mind going all the way to the top. The guide only takes about 10 minutes if they are going that late in the season.
