The Baltimore Book Festival utilized space in the Columbus Center for the 2019 festival. Romance Writers of America, Maryland Chapter, and Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America were on the second floor of the building. The building is new and attractive with a roof that makes you think of the sails of a ship. The meeting spaces were excellent. It was nice to be inside in chilly weather. And there was relatively inexpensive parking nearby. The Maryland Romance Writers had a large room for panel discussions and an anteroom outside with Ivy Books handling book sales. There was also a table of giveaways from authors. The Science Fiction Writers had tables for book sales and author promo in a wide public area outside their stage. The drawback was that it was hard to find these meeting spaces. There was some signage provided by the festival, but it needed additional signs from the organizations to make clear where to find the meeting rooms. The layout of the building is confusing. There was a hospitality suite for authors on the third floor, but it was also hard to find. Only one elevator took authors there. The big disadvantage for the SF and romance writers was that nobody was going to just wander by their stages while strolling around the festival, as has been the case in previous years. The genre authors were tucked away out of sight, and you had to specifically go to the second floor of the Columbus Center to see a panel discussion that interested you.
