Unexpected wonderful experience with history and art at this museum. Arranged 1:00 pm docent led tour. Toured rooms filled with art, books and history, giving one an experience of the life of the nation's elite wealthy. (Garrets of the B&O railroad). The absolute highlight for me was the Leon Bakst designed theater. (look forward to attending a performance there in the future). There is an extensive Asian art collection with a wide array of netsuke and even a opium be. There is a small gift shop and a self-guided garden tour. Our original reason for the visit was the House Plant exhibit which I found quite a disappointment. The museum could benefit from some Hopkins investment in lighting instead of a short beam from a flashlight of the docent.

I only found out about the Evergreen Museum and Library during the pandemic when I joined as many zooms as needed and learned of it. After speaking to a friend who lived in Baltimore who had only praise for the EM&L. This is a must visit for its architecture, its history, and a treasury of art. The collection of modernist work is particularly impressive as are the theatre and other work by Leonard Baskst. We had a knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide, and the hour long tour flew by. The Evergreen Museum is a must see.

Absolutely fabulous home, filled with a stunning collection of books and art. We loved the Louis Comfort Tiffany fixtures, the 24-carat bathroom, and especially. that knock-out of a theater, designed by the wildly imaginative Leon Baskt of the Ballet Russe. Our tour guide was very knowledgable about the family history.

We were delighted to be able to take a tour of the Evergreen House with Baltimore Heritage. We had not been in the house for years. The house was decorated for Christmas and was just stunning. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to take pictures inside of the house, which was a huge disappointment. You know what they say: a picture is worth a thousand words. Our guide was Teresa, and she really made the house come alive. She was extremely knowledgeable not only about the history of the Garrett family and the house, but also of the artwork and furnishings inside. The house is set on 26 landscaped acres. Originally, the house had only 12 rooms and later expanded to 48 rooms including a theater.

The two generations of Garretts who lived in this house until 1952 were the consummate collectors. The house is filled with over 50,000 pieces of their extraordinary and eclectic things. You will enjoy seeing and hearing about each and every room. You can tour the house with a guide on Tuesday thru Friday from 11 am to 4 pm; Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4 pm. Tours begin every hour, with the last tour at 3 pm. Regular admission is $8 Adults, $7 Seniors (65+), $5 Students (with ID); Youth (6-17), and Johns Hopkins Alumni and Retirees; FREE for Members; Johns Hopkins faculty, staff and students (with ID); Children (5 and under). The property is owned by The Johns Hopkins University. If you have never visited Evergreen, you should. It is certainly one of the hidden treasures of Baltimore.

While exploring the beautiful neighborhood of Roland Park, we decided to stop in at this historic estate and museum. The tour, the art collections and the libraries are exceptional and well worth the visit for any lovers of architecture, art and history. The family maintained relationships with world leaders and artists and it is reflected in the paintings and artifacts throughout the house. The museum also houses a large collection of Tiffany lamps and other items. Definitely worth visiting!

I've attended 2 weddings here and it's a beautiful place for a wedding. Plenty of parking. Quaint setting.

Took a tour of Evergreen Museum & Library on a recent visit to the Baltimore/Annapolis area. Home to two generations of the philanthropic Garrett family, the museum is full of a most impressive collection of fine and decorative arts, rare books, and manuscripts. Only disappointment is that we could not take any photographs.

The Garretts loved collecting beautiful things. The house is stuffed with rare books, Tiffany lamps, oil paintings, Japanese netsukes, Meissen figurines, White House china from the Grant administration and much, much more. The tour is very informative. This Baltimore gem has been owned by Johns Hopkins University for many years.

I went here by default because it was open when the other art museums were closed on a Tuesday. Very glad I did! An extremely knowledgeable docent (I believe her name was Penny) gave me a personal tour. If you've read the book The Hare With The Amber Eyes, you'll appreciate the excellent collection of netsuke in this museum. The product of generations of wealth, this place is a unique collection of art, culture, history and architecture, including landscape architecture. Definitely worth a visit.

It is hard to explain how wonderful the house is. Freddy gave us the tour and she was terrific! Lots of Tiffany glass and art works. Great philanthropists! Highly recommend!
