Be warned that parking is awful around the graveyard and have to pay around $1.50 to park. Grave site of poe, his wife and mother in law. Have some literature around the grave telling about his life.

Situated in the middle of busy, noisy downtown Baltimore is the Westminster Burial Ground. Walking in through the beautiful old gates, you seem to be in a different world. Poe’s grave as well as that of his wife and mother-in-law, is given a place of honor near the entrance. The signage is good although weathered and sometimes hard to read, but it very helpful in contextualizing Poe’s life and contributions to literature, which are numerous and far-reaching. Behind the church is a stone marking Poe’s original burial site, which is next to his grandfather who fought in the Revolutionary War, as well as the unmarked grave of his brother. This is a very old graveyard with lots of unusual mausoleums, crypts and fascinating architectural features adorning many of the structures.

It’s a fun romp through a graveyard. It’s a small graveyard. The Poe monument gravestone is near the entrance but the original grave is around the back of the building. Worth a look for a Poe fan.

It is interesting that Edgar Allan Poe's final resting place is located in a "burying ground" not a cemetery that surrounds and is even underneath historic Westminster Presbyterian Church. One first encounters Poe at the northwest entrance on Fayette Street with a well maintained marble memorial to him and his wife. There is a long protected signboard along the wall next to this stone that outlines the relevant history. Today was the death anniversary of Poe and we thus found a woman dressed in 19th Century clothes being photographed at the site. A banner for a weekend Poe Death Exhibit was placed near the church entrance. In addition one finds another tomb marker for Poe behind the church next to one for his grandfather, David. He was interred at this location from 1849 to 1875, when he was moved to the front along with his wife and mother-in-law. A valuable addition to Poe landmarks in Baltimore.

An amazing grave yard--beautiful, sad, spooky. Leave a coin for luck on Poe's grave stone. In addition to Poe's grave, there are others belonging to important people in Baltimore's history.

Although the church was not open at the time of my visit (Monday late morning) I greatly enjoyed the grounds. Informational markers were scattered and offered in depth information on many generals and soldiers that served during the Revolutionary War. Edgar Allen Poe's actual grave is behind the church with his family. I was disappointed to see cigarette butts in front of his grave as well as liquor bottles behind it.

I remember coming here as a kid on a school trip. It was more interesting now that I have read some of Poe's works. The cemetery is a little difficult to navigate for those not sure on their feet. Stop if you are in the neighborhood or are a Poe fan but otherwise, I would skip it.

The Poe memorial and grave are a place that any literary buff or Poe fan will enjoy. The day we were there, a white rose was on the memorial. There are numerous old graves of famous Baltimore residents -- each has a nice display plaque outlining the persons life and legacies. The cemetery grounds are somewhat uneven in places which make it a little difficult for anyone with physical impairments or strollers/wheelchairs.

Would have loved to spend some time in this cemetery but it was late on a Friday afternoon so no parking allowed on the surrounding streets. Thus it became a drive-by where I hopped out of the car to go into the cemetery and shoot a couple photos without taking the time to read all the signage surrounding the monument. Recommend going earlier in the day when on-street parking is available or use a nearby parking garage. That said, it was kind of awesome to stand in front of the monument remembering Edgar Allan Poe whose stories I read back in elementary school!!

Still not sure, is his grave the tombstone towards the back, or the big memorial at the entrance i.e his corpse was transferred up front and they just have the old tombstone to mark where the original burial site was?

Yes. He old spot in the back is where his remains were first entered. The memorial up front is where they were relocated to many years later.

Si tu novio es fanático de poe, le va a encantar de visitar este sitio. de hecho, son tres sitios: la casa, y dos tumbas. todo está muy cerca y se puede caminar de un lugar a otro muy fácilmente. pudimos nosotros caminar desde nuestro hotel, visitar los sitios, regresar a nuestro hotel, y después ir al Inner Harbor fácilmente. La única cosa es que todo estaba en inglés y no sé si había traducciones al español disponible.

Hi was looking at booking here, was offered the all meal deal. Can i ask what that entails? Do you get lunch,and dinner? If so is it a buffet dinner or three course dinner? I'm not sure how a cemetery is going to provide a meal deal? I think you posted this under the wrong attraction? The church here offers tours, but I am not sure you can book a meal deal on that tour.
