My husband and I visited here on a Sunday morning. This is a beautiful area, and we were surprised to see a big nature area planted in the middle of a big city. There is plenty of parking. The nature center was open for a few hours -- the volunteers working seem enthusiastic about their volunteer work. There is also a mansion here that dates back to the Civil War. There are a lot of beautiful plants and trees here. There were also several walking trails, including some that were paved and others that were wooded.

Changed my mind. I had planned a trip but after reading the post from Chris M.
about the aggravated shooting and neglectful attitude of the arboretum, I will not be visiting. I've worked in Baltimore City for decades I'm informed and aware and I won't be visiting.

Such a pleasant surprise to find this during my visit to Baltimore. Lovely place to walk around. The mansion seems to have been closed, and I was there around 2 PM.

***PLEASE READ*** - Aggravated Assault via Shooting on Premises. On 5/21/22 I attended a wedding here at the Cylburn Arboretum. It was a late afternoon early evening event so I had driven down from New Jersey and planned to drive back up the same day. At around 9pm I had left the wedding and walked to the parking lot. To my surprise, the parking lot was completely dark with little to no lighting. I entered my car, sat down, and was soon after met with 2 individuals who then attempted to rob me. I was being held at gun point from my passenger side door as yelling from both of them and myself broke out. Intimidation shots were then fired into the air for me to exit my vehicle. I refused and instead reversed out as quickly as I could with my head down and fled the scene as they proceeded to fire at my car. When fleeing the venue I noticed the gate was left unattended and wide open for anyone to come and go as they please. After contacting the wedding couple to let them know of the active shooter inside and
then working with police, I followed up with venue about the incident which turned out to be an EXTREMELY disappointing experience. I was directed towards the Chief of Safety and Risk Management who was slow to respond to any of my emails. I explained to him that this ordeal could have been prevented and that I wanted my concerns about the safety of this venue addressed. To avoid this from happening again the following was discussed over the phone: lighting poles in the parking lot, installation of surveillance cameras, and someone attending the front gate. In addition to this I was also looking for the reimbursement of damages inflicted on my car. Ultimately, I was given the run around for months as their legal team had apparently gotten involved and did not want to take responsibility. Not only that but my request for updates on safety for future guests was also ignored. This was one of the most traumatic experiences of my life and I would not wish this on anyone. With the lack of accountability taken on their end and the likelihood of nothing being done for the safety of future guests, this could very possibly happen again with more devastating results. I am currently considering legal action for neglect but I feel that is also my responsibility to make the public aware of this incident as well via this review. Hope this helps when considering booking an event here.

Cylburn is a cool, shady reprieve from the city. It has beautiful gems of plants at different times of the year and lovely shaded, woody walks.

I came to see the gardens and was very disappointed. There's just a big, bare patch of dirt and some dead bushes in what used to be a rose garden, and most of the gardens that remain look very overgrown and neglected. Not much to see here! However, it's a lovely place for a picnic among the flowering trees and daffodils.

This is a great place to wander around and enjoy peaceful surroundings. Bring a book, pack a lunch, or just go for the environment. Cool buildings to explore too.

Cylburn is at its best in the spring, when masses of naturalized daffodils across the grounds come into bloom. Fortuitously, this is also when the grove of old magnolias blooms, with lots of different varieties represented. There are even some ornamental cherries. Take some time to walk the paths through the woods around the old mansion house, and you can also spot a variety of spring wildflowers. It's a real urban oasis, with lots of space for kids to throw a frisbee or run around.

A great site to spend a couple of hours on beautiful afternoon. The visitor center was lovely and informative-Composting toilets with explanations of why they’re good for the Chesapeake Bay. Cool! Friendly staff/volunteers. We hiked a path in the woods one direction and took a paved path back. Along the way, there were several gardens, a carriage house, a mansion(closed to the public on most weekends), lawns, benches, fields of daffodils and more hiking trails for another visit.

We came to see the Christmas decoration and took a walk. Even though the ground is bare this time of the year, we appreciate the evergreens and enjoyed the tranquil surroundings. Can't wait to come back when the gardens are in full glory.

Yes, there’s a free lot next to the nature center, off the turnaround. Usually, there’s no problem finding a space.

The other 2 people already adequately answered this question. The only thing that I could add is that I did see people walking their dogs there. That and when I was in the building they mentioned that it's technically a city park and Baltimore City park rules apply (which also means you can bring your dog).

I asked at the Visitor center. They poinyed out locations of picnic tables, but invited us to spread a blanket anywhere or sit pn the grass if we wished. The staff isn't stuffy, and they are helpful to inquirers.
