A nice example of a WW2 era sub.

One of the few surviving WW2 subs available for tour. Like many, this is maintained by a financially-challenged historical group who are doing their best with limited resources. The sub shows its age but is still in good condition overall. The interior is well-labeled. Overall, I would recommend if your are into this kind of thing.

It is very hard to imagine the size and scope of these vessels without being there. I knew they were massive but being there makes one realize the vastness of it all

The engineering is amazing. Very cool look into submarine technology. Problem was getting big body through small hatches and not hitting head. Ouch! Was stuffy and hot in summer. Entrance fee gets you into 3 ships around inner harbor. USS Constellation. A very interesting look into live on a sub.

Fun afternoon on the ships

We were looking for an activity to do in the afternoon as they were calling for torrential rain and opted for the Historic Ships of Baltimore.

Didn’t regret it at all. Not too expensive for 4 very different ships. The USS Torsk was by far our favorite. Easy to buy tickets to, it’s a self-guided tour. It is really impressive how well maintained it is.

Very cool to walk through a submarine. Kids 13, 10 and 8 thought it was super neat. We bought a package so we could also tour the USS Constellation too, which was also a neat experience.

I love subs! The Torsk didn't disappoint

I have a big thing for WW2 era sub exhibits and the Torsk did not disappoint. It's totally self-guided so you can spend as much time checking things out.

Unique Experience

This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to climb inside the tight space of a WWII era submarine. This attraction provides a detailed look into life aboard a sub.

Take the time to read the information provided with each exhibit. It provides a wealth of additional information about daily life on the Torsk. For instance, they had a machining area on the ship. As parts wore out or were damaged there is no place out at sea to get new parts. They had to make their own replacement parts in the machining area.

One note of warning, if you are claustrophobic this might not be the tour for you. Also, if you are taller than six foot you will have some difficulty maneuvering through the Torsk. The doorway openings from room to room are quite small.

One-of-a-Kind Squeeze through History

We bought tickets to see the historic ships in Baltimore on a very hot August day. Its important when you buy the tickets to know which ships will be open on the day you visit - as when we were there only two of the ships were open and available for tours. We visited and walked through the Torsk - which is my favorite of the ones we've seen in Baltimore. Its a unique experience to get to walk through a submarine and see just how tight and cramped the living space is for sailors who spend months on these boats. There are helpful explanatory signs through the submarine, which you get to walk inside from end-to-end. I would note that this tour is not for the mobility challenged and will be difficult for folks who are large in size. Its a tight fit at every turn and requires some contortions to get through the hatches inside the boat without banging a joint. Seeing all that though just adds to the experience and the respect you have for those who serve. Also - as this is a one-way walk down tight corridors, the speed you can get through the boat is going to be set by the people in front of you, so it can be a bit slow-going.

Memorable, quick tour

This is a great tour, simply to be in awe of 1940 analogue technology. It's like every inch has wire, pipe, gauge. No panic attacks allowed in this thing, there would be nowhere to go. Unbelievable what soldiers endure for us.
