Stumbled in to this little gem thinking it was a tourist information office, which it certainly isn't! A fascinating collection of artefacts and information boards about the history of this part of Baltimore. This history includes the shipping trade and military action, both of which are discussed by the knowledgeable staff. There is also a short film and and interesting display about the architecture of the area. Easily accessed from the water taxi, which arrives and departs from almost opposite. Highly recommended way of passing half an hour or more.

The Museum sums up very well investigated details the story of the clipper ships that drove Baltimore's economy in the 18th (from 1730) and 19th centuries.
Fells Point was the engine of maritime commerce and international politics with immigrants, shipbuilders, merchants, sailors and privateers that sought their fortunes in this harbor community, house to the world-famous Baltimore clipper schooners.
These special vessels, known also as pilot-built schooners, were the fastest (either with legal and illegal cargoes) and in the war of 1814 Thomas Boyle, famous privateer, in one trip captured 14 British vessels. The Museum, even if small, has the merit to immerge the visitor in the needs of navigation and technical answers sought and offered by maritime clippers.
The Museum, which is part of a Museum system of the city (Preservation Society), offers interesting guided visits to Fell Point.
In short, a little gem and I am pleased to have met its designers: Dr. Douglas Comer who are my compliments.

This has to be the top Museum if you want to understand all about the real Baltimore and, Jim who I met as I walked in, is so knowledgeable its beyond belief.
This should sit at the number one tourist point as Jim advises about the history of the the Fells Point Pier dead oposite that would have been destroyed had the government got their way and built route 95 through it.
All of the main historical characters are referenced here, not only in oil paintings but also there is a photo wall with some serious history behind it that is really very moving.
Buy your postcards here and spend time having a tour, its all you need to do in Baltimore. There is no tacky junk, just hard facts, and a very old building steeped in history itself. Do yourself a favour and understand why you are walking on Belgian cobbles to get to the front door!!
