A great stop for book lovers! So cool to see! Visitors are only allowed on the main floor, unfortunately. Our total visit was 10 minutes or less, and be warned that pre-teens will think this is so boring.
It’s close to the George Washington monument so it a good little sightseeing area.

You do not need a lot of time to appreciate it. Georgeous and just feels like it should. We snooped through the card catelogue a bit but otherwise just casy our eyes up and imagined all the scholarship and history that we were surrounded by.

This is an underappreciated gem of Baltimore. While the entrance may be too conventional to be overlooked, a step into the library is like a travel to Europe. With decorative Greek columns, George Peabody Library is a temple of literature. Unfortunately only the ground floor is open to public.

Beautiful library! Enjoyed the Women of the Book exhibit in the foyer. As a guest, one can only visit the ground floor, and I was pleasantly surprised that the H.L.Mencken section was there! He is Baltimore's true son, and my favorite curmudgeon ❤️.

I knew from the pictures I had to pop in and see the library. Absolutely stunning! You can’t go up into the stacks, but there were quite a number of interesting books on the ground floor to look at. The free city bus (purple line) made it easy to explore this part of the city so spending a few minutes in the library was a nice activity.

Though I had seen pictures, I wasn't prepared when I walked through the doors. The beautiful architecture and the smell of old books hits your senses. The library is absolutely beautiful. It wasn't as big as I had envisioned it, but it's perfect. Definitely make the stop if you are nearby. Just know it is closed Fridays and Saturdays.

This place definitely deserves to be stopped at. It’s so beautiful and inspiring. Super accessible and it’s really just one room so we stayed about 15 mins in awe. If you’re close by, definitely do stop.

This is easily one of the most beautiful libraries in the world. The staff was helpful and this was the perfect place to wander around for about an hour. I would say this is a must-do for anyone who considers themselves book-ish person

Can visitors go any further than the first floor? From what I've read, it seems they are restrictions but I'm just confused whether it includes all 5

There are librarians there. Perhaps if you call ahead and ask for a special tour - you may get it. Otherwise, you are indeed restricted to the first floor. It is a real shame. But as everyone has said - it is truly worth seeing - even if restricted to the first floor. Also, there is an interesting display of books and historical information in a room just prior to entering the library. That was worth time to look at the displays and drawings. It was fascinating to learn who Peabody was and his donation of the funds to build the library. It is truly an important look into Baltimore's history. Do call ahead to the librarians - or curators - they office in the library every day. Perhaps they will bless you with a visit upstairs. Its worth a try.
