Call first! We wasted a trip. Got there & parked. Noticed that the place looked completely abandoned. Trash everywhere. Grass a foot high. Walked to the visitors entrance. Rang the bell. No one. Used needles/syringes littering the main entry to the house. Sad. This historic site deserves better!

We tried to go in August. There is a sign on the door that it is closed. That's a shame as it is very old and, from reviews when it was open, would be a great place to visit.

This house is beautifully restored and lovingly maintained. The Christmas decorations were lovely. Our guide was wonderful. The tour was interesting and informative. I would highly recommend a visit.

Mount Clare Museum House is truly the most under appreciated historical home in Baltimore. The Carroll family history is central to the history of Maryland itself. The museum has added many new ways to entice visitors including a fascinating architectural tour of the outside of the mansion/museum and the grounds. We visit the museum at least twice a year and learn something new every time. The decorations during Christmas are true to the era and always lovely. The tour guides and staff obviously love the house and are so willing to share their knowledge. Don't miss this.

Stopped by on the way to another destination. A little serpentine through streets to get to, but worth the GPS work. The docent, Dodie, was personable, down-to-earth, very informative, and obviously fully engaged in sharing the details of the house and lives there.

Non-flash pictures are welcomed and, although the guided tour (with only my wife and me on it) lasted about 45 minutes, I took over 70 pictures of the many artifacts of unusual detail. I've been through a lot of houses (10-15) of this type and this one has as many things to see on display as any I've visited.

It would be nice if the vista to the river or the plain on which the Civil War training encampment were still visible, but progress marches on obscuring interesting aspects of a landmark. But, the gigantic 1929 Montgomery Ward office building is still visible in its grandeur just to the southwest of the house.

Interesting that the entrance was locked when we arrived around 2:40, but ringing the bell brought someone to open as we walked in on a museum staff meeting in the waiting room. However, the docent was with us in about three minutes and the tour began well before the advertised 3:00 starting time. They were in the process of decorating for their Christmas tours which enabled us to see some displays they bring out for Christmas without all of the garland, tinsel, and whatever might be competing with it later this season.

Some of the everyday life items I hadn't seen before in other visits to colonial era houses: a dinner plate warming holder, a device for removing used dishes from the table and carrying them to the kitchen/washroom, a fireplace heat deflector, a wine glass rinsing jar, a liqueur drinking set, a metal bathtub (not the size we would think), a cake basket, and a bedroom washstand for washing tops and bottoms. Even if the items on display are not all artifacts original to the house as was said, they are still a tremendous volume of era details rarely seen elsewhere.

Absolutely recommended.

Located in a park in southwest Baltimore, we almost missed this Colonial Era beauty as we did not see it from the road. So we walked into the park and headed up a knoll as we glimpsed an edifice amidst the trees. There were two staff, a gift shop attendant and our tour guide and we were the only guests. We sat for an introductory video and then took our tour of this 18th century Georgian gem furnished with many artifacts from the original family. Some information on slavery is also included.

Nestled in a walkable park is this nicely preserved and appointed house of Barrister Carroll. The tour guide was fantastic, enraging and knowledgeable. Good place to learn more about Maryland history and the upper crust lifestyle of days gone by.

We toured this mansion after we walked through the B&O Railroad Museum and took the train up to it from the Museum. You watch a short film before taking the tour, and there are many original artifacts in the mansion which make it extra special. The mansion was originally owned by the Carroll family whose descendants donated some of the acreage for the railroad for the first depot in the area named appropriately Mount Clare Station.

You can visit Mount Clare two ways- on it's own or as an add-on to a visit to the B&O Railroad Museum. We visited with our granddaughters on New Year's Eve. When we arrived at the railroad museum we purchased tickets for the train ride to Mount Clare as well as tickets to tour the mansion. Our granddaughters are 5 and 8 and are quite used to visiting museums with us. The tour guide was very accommodating to our girls as well as other children on the tour. We learned a lot about the mansion, the contents, and the family of Charles Carroll, Barrister. Highly recommend!
