This museum is very well organized and covers the main areas of historical interest. There is no charge. It was a good rainy day activity for my friend and I who were staying nearby for a few days.

We took many tours and we really enjoyed visits of museums.
Just make sure you keep your belongings. All guiding tours were delivered with perfect French or English.
Please check entrance and opening hours as some museums close at lunch time.

We were welcomed by a very nice lady. She offered local information and gave us a plan to view the museum. Lots to see and plenty of reading material. A very nice first stop before going to the Fort Stanwix sight.

Nice slice of local history. Nothing overpowering but nice. Closes at 3 PM most days. Worth an hour or so. Be sure to walk the area to see the NYFD memorial, the tomb of the reloutionary unknown and the Rome war memorial.

As local niche museums go...his one is worth going to see. Plenty of early American history occurred in Rome, especially when it was a Fort Stanwix.

We are from PA and are researching our family history. None of us are from Rome, however, our parents were married there. The Historical Society was helpful in obtaining the information and indeed, the stained glass windows from the original church are in the Museum. Staff people were friendly - but especially Patrick, was very involved in our adventure.

this is a delightful trip down memory lane to all thing Roman. They continually update exhibits! A wonderful auditorium for presentations and great staff for anyone wanting to do research- they are so helpful!

The museum walks you through the years that Rome has existed - Native American settlements, Indian Wars, Revolutionary War, Erie Canal, modern manufacturing, and Griffiss U.S. Air Force base.
It is an interesting museum with some unique artifacts. It's not slick or new but it is worth a visit.
It is free and it's just down the sidewalk from Fort Stanwyx.
