As friends and puppeteers, we went to see "The Magic Pearl" there today. It was beyond measure as they performed to a full house of attendees. Veronica, the shows Producer and narrator, appeared first and helped to get all the kids and adult audience members prepared for the experience. Helping us all with our "ooos, ahhs..... and how to clap was a playfully great start and definitely had the kids positive attention. Then, the show began. It was a wonderful story told about a Dragon and a Phoenix which had sentimental ties for the flutist, who wrote the story from various translations taught to her by her family. Her real name is "Bo", whoch translates to "Magic Pearl" in her families culture.
From beginning to end, it was creative, purely magical and held interest, even to those little ones sitting in the first 4 rows. The full show spoke to so many on different levels in a positive way.
As I was there bringing a new puppeteer with me to have her experience it, I could not have asked for more. Wonderful! This place is a must see for everyone who is experiencing or would like to be brought back to a time when things were simpler. Or for those who would like their children to experience MAGIC!

Such a fun place to take kids to, took a shadow puppet class there and loved it. My kids took a class there and loved it, a great place to let your imagination go wild.

This theater is a neighborhood and regional gem: one of the few places that truly celebrates and promotes the art of puppetry in all its forms and for all audiences. I've brought my son here to many shows—one memorable moment was in a show called "Red Ball Rescue," when during an underwater scene with particularly innovative use of puppetry to create the feeling of being in a whole new world my 5-year old leaned over and whispered "I want to remember this my whole life!" Their adult puppetry is equally moving and inspiring.

Recently My wife and I took our two granddaughters, then aged 5 and 8, to see a production by the Gottabees at Puppet Showplace Theater in Brookline. If you and your family - and I don't just mean your young children - haven't seen a performance by the Gottabees, you really don't know what you're missing. Their combination of puppetry, acting, and music takes creative fun to a new level. Luckily for families in the Greater Boston-Brookline-Cambridge area, the Gottabees are only one of the many high-quality puppetry acts that appear regularly at Puppet Showplace. Any grandparent looking for a surefire way to do something special with your grandchildren need not look any farther!

When I discovered the Puppet Showplace Theater existed near me, I got super excited. I've been a fan of puppetry since I was a kid (Dark Crystal, Fraggle Rock, Muppets!), so I was definitely curious to see what they had to offer. Luckily, they offer quirky and compelling adult entertainment such as Puppet Slams (works-in-progress, original pieces, and unique content geared towards adult audiences) as well as shows with really powerful content (shows on disability, refugees, racial injustice). The staff are super-friendly and engaging and appear to really value their contributions to the arts and the community. If you're in the area as a long-time resident or just visiting for the day, definitely check it out. If you've got kids, they have a continual mix of shows, programs, and classes that kids can have a blast at.

First a disclaimer. I am a puppeteer. That being said I’ve seen many MANY crappy puppet shows. Fortunately the artistic team at The Showplace chooses only the best performers to do shows. Their Summer line up of performers was a who’s who of performers from across the USA. Their fall line up is even better. Go see a show. Just go.

Make the time to take your kids, your grandkids, relatives or perhaps your neighbors kids to this magical theater. Fun and engaging shows in a cozy theater, no matter where you sit. Great throughout the year, but especially during holiday weeks, and in particular when the weather is snowy/rainy. Take the Green line, stop just across the street.

We saw the puppet show about the Banana Kid. It was great for both adults and kids. Only thing I would suggest is that staff could be more observant. Adults were using cell phones during performance and being annoying. Kids were fine, some adults, not so much!

A very nice alternative for younger kids if you need to occupy them for a couple of hours. The shows are very appropriate for them and the performers do an excellent job. Be sure to check their site to know what shows are on or coming up.
