My review is a tad different - some of my family live here. We see much more of Floyd Bennett Field than other folks. Aviator is a great sports and fun facility. You can take the Flatbush Avenue bus here then walk through the main entrance. There are wonderful sports fields here, you may need to get a permit to have official games and practices. The quiet solitary beaches are great for a good think. Many folks jog, walk, ride bikes, practice driving. You can feel safe. There are multiple police precincts here, and multiple police helicopter pads plus a large Marine Corps Reserve facility. The only sad thing is all the empty deteriorating military housing that could be helping hundreds of families. Otherwise, Floyd Bennett Field is a joy. So many people enjoy working on the active hangars and community gardens. Just hangout with open eyes and ears to see a most special location in Brooklyn. Enjoy

Trip Advisor does not have a date before Aug 2018 but they ask if you've ever been someplace. Used to ride my bike here as a kid from Brooklyn. Before that my dad taught me how to ride a bike here.

The Ryan Visitor Center was recently reopened after renovation. However, it's still the same tired place, like putting a dress on a pig. There are officially only three NPS stamps you can get (as opposed to about six, including bonuses); there is also a Junior Ranger stamp but you have to ask for it. When we went, there was what seemed to me a new, small room, on the second nonstop flight across the Atlantic. There still was a big pretty much empty room with a wooden airplane to teach the fundamentals of flight, and the room with the NC-4 model had a nonworking computer display or monitor as well as water on the floor. Aside from the stamps and gift shop, we were in and out of Ryan in 10 minutes. That, and they have clean bathrooms. I would go here only if you need the stamps. We'll be back to get the stamps from the camp store as well as to see Hangar B, but that's it.

This is a great little hidden spot in Brooklyn if you are traveling to NYC in spring or summer with your RV and need a place to put it. It has a dump site, clean water, bathrooms, and showers.

It has nothing else.

If you have an RV like I do, then you can be comfortable. But that is because you can run your generator and use your own bathroom.

The RV site is about a mile from the bus stop. When it's hot it isn't worth the walk and it's easier to drive over, safer too if you are returning late. Now, the bus will take you to the mall, subway, supermarket etc. So that's a plus.

The site is just an empty lot with picnic tables at each site. You will be annoyed by the following: low airplane flyovers, low flying NYPD helicopter patrols, idiots racing and doing donuts, sanitation truck driver training, city bus driver training, random driving school training, iffy reception.

There are zero hookups so an extended stay is really just boondocking with water and dumping close by.

The staff is nice, they are very laid back. You don't notice, but they do patrol to keep an eye on things, but late at night they seem to always miss the racers

Bottom line: if you have an extended stay in NYC and a good rig of your own this place isn't bad at $30/night....but it is bare bones.

Floyd Bennett Field is an NPS site, part of the Jamaica Bay Unit of Gateway National Recreation area. The grounds are open throughout the day however the visitor center is only open until 430pm. NPS rangers are available to answer questions. You are allowed to drive around the airfield in old taxiways, but the runways are off limits. There are great sights for plane spotting takeoffs and landing at Kennedy Airport. Access to the airfield is free.

They have turned the old Floyd Bennett Field into a multi-use facility. There are still the old hangars and strips. However, now you can actually camp here, swim and play a variety of sports.

The tent campsite here are gloriously wooded, filled with honeysuckle and wild hares and surrounded by runways and old hangars, bathrooms are well kept, a short distance from these sites, water source is just on the fringe of the campground. The campground has kayaking in the bay available and museums to see, can take a bus to a subway to hop it to manhattan or can take a bus to a ferry to get there. Can rent bikes somewhere on these enormous grounds of FLoyd Bennett field, we brought our own for a lovely, bike laned mostly flat ride to the ocean beach at Jacob Riis park and to Rippers on 86th st for a sunset meal with an amazing live band.

The only part of the park we visited was Dead Horse Bay. After reading about this quirky place we had to check it out. A short walk down a rough trail from the parking lot we encountered a wide open beach just covered in glass. This beach was once a trash heap and now the glass bottles are being slowly turned into sea glass. Really worth the visit. Collected some neat pieces of glass and listened to the sound of the waves moving the glass. Almost sounded like wind chimes! Just make sure you apply plenty of bug spray!

You can fish here, play, cricket, soccer, baseball, football, race model cars . No model airplanes or drones here. NYCPD helicopter squadron or driving school is here. Many area's are off limits but otherwise a good time can be had when they have their festivals.
