I grew up in this town, but I wanted my girlfriend to see this town and this lifestyle, Jacob was very thorough and explained the history of this town, also a lot of very interesting facts on the origin of some of the older mansions, and the kugel wasn't half bad either, Thank you Jacob

For anyone interested in learning about the insulated, isolated culture of the Satmars and other ultra Orthodox Jewish sects, this is THE tour! Jacob is extremely knowledgeable and insightful about these insular, isolated groups. He lived the life before eventually leaving to live as a mainstream American. A fascinating, off-the-beaten-track tour of another side of Brooklyn/NYC. Personally, I found the whole thing fascinating; I felt as if I had stepped back in time and was walking around an early-mid 20th century European shtetl. Jacob is a fantastic guide- smart, funny, and willing to answer our many probing questions! He is a true scholar of life both inside and outside these communities.

Jacob is incredibly knowledgable, articulate and interesting. The tour lasted 3 hours, circled through Williamsburg and visited restaurants, bookstores and food shops. Jacob discussed the history, culture and current status of Hasidic culture. As a former member of the Hasidic world, he knows the world and speaks openly and authoritatively about the area and culture. Highly recommended!!!! Like entering another country with a guide who speaks the language.

We had such a wonderful experience exploring Williamsburg with Jacob. He was extremely knowledgable, engaging and offered such an interesting perspective on life in the Hasidic community. We learned so much and genuinely enjoyed our time with him. I highly recommend this tour!

Absolutely loved it--- I would recommend it to everyone! The tour was very informative and interesting. Jacob is very knowledgable, he answered all sorts of questions our group had, ranging from the history of the community to minute details about their customs and daily life. The tour is very interactive, you can ask Jacob questions as you walk down the streets of the neighbourhood, be it about the sites/buildings he is talking about at that very moment or something that just crosses your mind about Hassidism in general... (quoting myself: do the women take off the wigs when they come home? do they sleep with them?....) My favourite part of the tour was food tasting at Gottlieb's (super tasty food btw, I went back to the place to have dinner after the tour!) which was accompanied with a long conversation with Jacob about the Hassidic community. He is very communicative (without being cheesy!!) and it was a real pleasure to talk to him. He was opened to talk about his personal experience of 'leaving' the community and I was very impressed by the way he talked about it -- he was very honest while remaining respectful and highly informative. All in all, I took this tour because I wanted to understand the Hassidic community better. This is exactly what I got with an 'extra' of getting to know a nice knowledgeable person also willing to share a bit of his personal experience to help me understand the topic. Priceless :).

Excellent tour, Jacob is super-super knowledgable of Hasidism given his own personal background. I have been a few times in NY but never took such a tour and I can only recommend it!

I took this tour because I want to understand this enigmatic community on a deeper, more authentic level. Jacob is a skilled and personable facilitator and is the perfect person to connect visitors with the history of the Hasidic movement while providing insight on Hasids in present day NYC and beyond. As a student of religion (amateur!), I really didn't want to be on an outsiders' sightseeing tour--people are not sights; rather, I was looking for an entree into a world that I have little access to so I could gain deeper knowledge of the whys and hows and whos in the community, and this experience fulfilled that. Well, actually not! It's such a complex and nuanced religious community and movement that in 3 hours we just scratched the surface! Honestly, the time went by so fast that I easily could have spent 3 or more hours on the tour. Yes, I'm a geek in that way. So I will definitely be back for more!
