Thank you to Mr Spielman for sharing his stories and insights on photography and New Orleans. If you are heading to the cemetery or Commander's Palace, it is worth a side trip to this gallery.

I hosted ten out of town friends for a stay in New Orleans this weekend. At the last minute they asked me to find a suitable walking tour of the iconic Garden District. David Spielman was able to book our entire group on a walking tour for Saturday morning. When we arrived at the gallery he gave us a brief introduction to his fabulous photography. His space is bright and welcoming, and beautifully cool on a hot New Orleans day. Our tour guide was engaging and knowledgeable. He was also incredibly patient with our comments, questions, giggles, and interruptions. He gave us a lengthy tour which covered all the highlights of this historic neighborhood. We were never rushed along, and we felt as if he had all the time in the world for us. When we returned to the gallery we were offered complimentary bottles of cold water and given great advice about possible lunch spots. As a local who works in the hospitality industry I have high standards, and this gem of a gallery and walking tour experience exceeded all my expectations. Bravo!!

We just so happened to walk by this gallery and was captivated by a photo hanging in the window. When we walked in, we were greeted by Mr. Spielman. His photography is amazing. The gallery is full of photos from of recent and decades ago. The great thing is that his art is timeless. A lot of the pictures you cannot date just by looking at them. He has great prints to buy in all sizes and even nice post cards. You should definitely stop by on your way to the Garden District.

Welcomed in air conditioned comfort to the tour by the gallery owner David Spielmann whgse photographic exhibition presents iconic, thought provoking images of New Orleans - an excellent introduction to the tour.
Another David was my tour guide and he was an absolute delight. A huge source of knowledge but presented in a warm, friendly and quirky manner sharing snippets of New Orleans past and present. I have been on a few tours where you sometimes feel a little lectured but not on this tour. You are captivated from the first stop at the Lafayette cemetary, the gentle stroll around the Garden District to your return to the coolness of the gallery. I was on my ownsome as my husband was feeling a little deflated with the heat and humidity. Got to the gallery easy enough from our accommodation in the city. This review is a late one as I did this tour end of July last year. Handy to have a fan and water!

Our guide was Sherry Alexander. She was a wonderful historian/journalist with a wealth and neutral position knowledge that our group very much enjoyed. If you appreciate timeless wisdom of histroy, she is a delightful and thorough guide. Thanks, Sherry,

David Spielman has published books of photos about Katrina, southern writers and local musicians. Many of his works are on the walls and he will tell you the story behind them. He also runs Garden District Tours from his shop at 10 a.m. daily. Make reservations the night before.
