I really enjoyed my trip here. The tour was great and informative. You first watch a film, then get to try King Cake (one lucky tour goer will get the baby in the cake). Then you take a tour of the factory where the Mardi Gras floats are made. I learned so much stuff..had no idea how much history was behind the parade and the floats. You get to see the robot that carves the floats. Then you get ampme free time to wander around, taking photos of all the large statues and things in the warehouse. Highly recommend, as this is truly unique to New Orleans. You're not gonna see something like this anywhere else.

This is worth a visit. We learned a lot about Mardi Gras and how the floats and decorations are made. You can see the artists at work. It is a giant warehouse and a gift shop. The tour starts with a short film about the history of Mardis Gras, then they serve you a slice of yummy Kings Cake - a tradition. The tour guide walks you through the warehouse for about a half an hour, then you can explore on your own. We were there for about an hourish with two teens. We drove and parked in Lot G right near there. We read mixed reviews on the shuttle so we did not do it. Parking was $23. We got our tickets on Groupon - cheaper - and had no issues being scanned in with Groupon voucher. It is a fun NOLA thing to do. Warehouse is hot. Gift shop is air conditioned. Hot walk from parking lot to door so if you have heat sensitive folks - drop them at door then go park. You pay for parking using an app. We enjoyed this visit.

We loved our trip to Mardis Gras World. We were looked after very well and it was great value for money. Our ticket included mardis gras beads, a documentary video in the theatre, a slice of king cake to try and then we went on the very interesting tour with lots of photo opportunities. Would definitely recommend!

The tour started with a short film and a slice of King Cake before we entered the warehouse. It was interesting to learn how they build all of the floats and see them up close. We were allowed to wander through the warehouse where they store everything, but it was HOT, so take something cold to drink or something to fan yourself. If you're really into Mardi Gras, this is something you'll likely enjoy.

My daughters and I thoroughly enjoyed the tour but the introductory film seemed a bit dated. It was fun for my daughter who has lived in NOLA for the past 4 years to learn about floats that she actually saw in action during recent Mardi Gras parades.

This was very interesting and a nice way to spend 2 hours! Dusty and hot in the warehouse. Our guide was VERY enthusiastic !! It was better than expected

I went to this facility with a large group from work as a team building exercise (which was to decorate and then present in parade form floats) and then dinner and a reception afterwards.
The start of the visit was boring and awful, as it was nearly 2 hours of “hanging out” in the store and factory area of where they build big, professional floats. Totally no communication of what to do, where to go, etc. So, we walked through it, but it was stifling hot so we went back to the store area where there was AC to hang out. Then, about a couple of hours later, they took us to the area where we decorated our own floats. None of us has any idea that this would be a very messy (painting) endeavor, thus we weren’t really dressed appropriately for it. This part of the “event” took about an hour and a half and though it was meant to be a team building exercise, the majority of us really didn’t find it to be something we were interested in.
The next part of the event was the reception, which was at a large indoor area that looks like an outdoor courtyard at a mansion. This area was really interesting looking and was the most exciting part of the hours we spent there. The food was decent and there were plenty of bars available too.
Overall, not sure what it costs to have such an event there, but the first two phases weren’t worth it… the last was nice. I’m sure we would have been perfectly fine just showing up for the dinner reception portion and omitting the first stuff.

My friend recommended this to me and I thought it would give me a sense of Mardi Gras since I was coming post-festival to New Orleans. However, it wasn't really my thing. It starts with a 15 min video that provides the history of Mardi Gras in New Orleans which was interesting and I did learn some things. Then they give everyone a piece of king cake- which is a nice touch! Then our tour of how they build the floats begins, and honestly, everything felt like it was from the late 1900s, vs contemporary floats. It was pretty tacky. Not the aesthetic I was hoping for. I think this is an interesting business idea, but there is more they could do with it to make the experience a bit more modern. The whole experience only takes about an hour if that, and then you have time to walk around and take photos.
They do offer a free shuttle service- but it was more hassle than it was worth. I called for the shuttle, and waited 30 mins for it to come, and then it was a 15 min ride to the location, and the shuttle was not air conditioned (broken I expect). On the way back I just called a Lyft and it was only $8 to get back into the French Quarter.
Not something I would recommend which is why I give it 2 stars.

It was very interesting to see a lot of huge characters displayed. We saw the process of how to make them and several of the floats. It was an inexpensive tour, well worth the time and expense. They even have a shuttle to transport you there and back.

What are their hours? Trip Advisor says they close at 4:30 but Google says 5:30. Also, do you have to pay for the guided tour or can you just pay for admission and tour on your own?

Paying admission includes the guided tour. Then you are free to browse in your own. Check their website for hours. They also have a free shuttle from the French Quarter and other stops.

Are they strictly adhering to CDC guidelines such as smaller and socially distanced tours, masks must be worn CORRECTLY and fully at all times, high cleaning standards, etc? I emailed them and didn't hear back so wondering who visited lately could provide insight? I don't see comments on their webpage either like other museums are doing. We don't want to skip this but want to ensure everything is safe before trekking down there from our hotel. I know about the free shuttle...not so sure in these times. Thank you.

We were there before the covid pandemic hit so I don't know what the conditions are now. Personally I wouldn't go to New Orleans right now anyway.

No, you can buy the tickets at the counter. However sometimes they have a large group buying tickets and it can take a while. The owner of Mardi Gras World is a friend and I know he works hard at providing good customer relations.

Is there a way/option to make your own mask during/after the tour or otherwise as a visiting couple? The only available noted option online is for team building with a 15 guest minimum.

On the day that we were there, the first of the super parades were planned, so many any of the prepared floats were out of the building and lines up for the parade. We received a well guided tour and were able to still see many former projects md a few already in the works. No mention was given for making masks.

Hi- Will we be able to see the floats in the warehouse if we go the week of Feb 18, since it is 2 weeks out from Mardi Gras? I wasn't sure when the floats would start to move out. Thanks.

Yes you can take all of the pics you want. They don’t have all of the floats for the Mardi Gras. I understood them to say there are many places where floats are being put together. Lots of props. After the guide takes you thru then you are on your own to spend as much time there. Well worth the $20 I paid. Can’t really remember what I paid but close enough.

I'm not 100% sure about whether you can walk around without taking the tour. I honestly wouldn't want to because the tour is incredible and after it was over, we could then go back in and walk around to anything we wanted to see again.
