The free self-guided tour (it takes about an hour) at The Sazerac House, at 101 Magazine Street, is totally worth doing and, when the temperature and humidity soars (as both often do), you’ll also appreciate the air-conditioning as you learn about New Orleans’ cocktail culture, prohibition in The Big Easy, and how the Sazerac came to be the city’s official cocktail. Along the way, you’ll have multiple opportunities to sample thimble-sized cocktails, The first tour is at 11am, the last is at 4:15pm; closed Mondays.

Spent about an hour in the self guided tour (free) and would recommend. Good history lesson on the development of cognac from the old world to the new world and replaced with rum and whiskey. And the creation of bitters. Highly recommended!

Can’t help but rate a free tour 5star with samples, clean bathrooms & an awesome gift shop. There are elevators so this is an accessible site. They have 2 movie rooms & also interactive media events that are cool & plenty to read “displays”. We spent 1 hr here & did not even read everything.

Beautiful building restoration, excellent history of booze and cocktails…at least four samplers of Peychauds bitters, a sazerac, manhattan and whiskey smash.

Free self-guided tour to reserve, last tour at 4:20 pm
Excellent experience with samplings en route. Historically educational and often times interactive. There are several themed interactive mixed drink bars which are amazing. Peychaud bitters sold there are made there in small batches. Learn the importance of the absinthe substitute.
The Sazerac brands are of course highlighted.
Reserve a starting time slot and plan for 1-1/2 hour plus more for shipping at the end.

If you are looking for a unique place in the Quarter to experience, this is the place. I loved the self guided tour. They have samples along the way and have interactive exhibits which is a plus. I learned a lot here. The only downside was you couldn't take outside beverages on the tour - but I had an outside beverage the entire time and literally no one said anything to me until I went into the gift shop. So don't think you can grab a drink then come in; that's a no go.

Abbiamo prenotato il tour senza aspettarci granchè e invece siamo rimasti stupiti dalla completezza e dalla qualità di questa esposizione che prendendo spunto da un famoso cocktail racconta la storia cittadina degli ultimi 150 anni partendo da fine 800 e passando per il proibizionismo.

The history of sazerac is well thought out and explained through visuals, interactive displays, historical items and more. The self guided tour was fun with tastings spaced throughout. The staircase wall of bottles is very cool, and the whole place has a great look and feel to it. The ground floor store has clothing, decor, seasonings, glassware, barware and booze!

Great free distillery self guided tour museum and free samples. Very nice history of spirits and new orleans cocktails as well as bourbon and rum. Staff giving samples were informative a d friendly. Definite must do!

Hi Kyle! The tour is self guided with ambassadors placed throughout to answer questions, so you can go as fast or slow as you like. We generally recommend 90 minutes.

Yes. Once you check in and have the initial greeting from a staff member, you take an elevator to the top floor to start the tour. You work your way down during the full tour, but someone could easily take the elevator down to the next floor each time. Also, there are many spot to sit and engage in one of the experiences so if someone needed a standing break during the time there, they have many opportunities throughout the experience.
