Looked up the NOLA Brewery on-line before leaving San Diego----Found NOLA (New Orleans Lager & Ale Brewery) so we decided to have a pint or two. There was only 4 of us in the tasting room---my wife, a "regular", and employee and myself. The beers were great and rivaled some of the better San Diego micro-breweries such as Stone, Ballast Point, Belching Beaver and Aztec. Actually, we thought the brews were really good, especially "Hopatoullas" as I am an IPA guy. Naturally when in a brewery you talk beers. Well, the employee, we later found out was the Head Cellarman, asked if we wanted to tour the facility. But of course we would---nothing like a personalized guided tour. This guy was outstanding and made us feel at home. As we talked, he told us some of the guys from Stone Brewery including the owner were going to do a collaboration brew at the NOLA facility---I know the owner of Stone and that sure made it a small world. If you have a chance to visit, please do. Guess their future plans are to move the tasting room to an adjacent building they bought, put in a restaurant & patio. Good luck guys and if you ever make it to So.Cal and visit the breweries along Hwy 78---The Hop Highway---maybe we'll run into you.

My wife booked this tour for my birthday. As a New Orleans local and a beer fan, it was the perfect mix for a day. As my title says, it should be for tourists only. As for the history, I did not learn much because the tour guide (I forget his name), gave the group the option of hearing history, or just drinking at each location. As a local, I knew the history of most of the locations, but in New Orleans especially, there is always something else to learn. We went from Tujaques, to Jax Brewery, to a few other places and ended on Bourbon Street. I was able to try a few new beers that I hadn't tried before, but I didn't learn anything except that guys on vacation in New Orleans take a beer tour to get trashed (instead of just going to the closest bar and pounding their Bud light or Miller Light). You would learn learn more history from a DK Eyewitness book, stopping at Sidney's liquor store and stopping at almost any food place you see. On that note, the tour does give food tastings, but nothing was too thrilling to write home about. In my opinion, skip it and just go to NOLA brewery on Tchoupitoulas.

History tour of New Orleans with delicious Louisiana beer. I was a history teacher for sometime, so I have been on a few history tours in the French Quarter and throughout New Orleans. Like most, I went on this tour to drink beer for the most part. However, the rich and interesting history complemented our drinking very well. Rudy touched on facts about the development of New Orleans that I did not know, and even more about the rich brewing history in New Orleans. It used to be the brewing capital of the Southern USA! Overall, we tried 8 local craft beers from the many new microbreweries in LA and had a great time!

History tour with beer. That alone is enough for me. I enjoy learning about history, and I love beer. I went into this tour because it was a gift, not expecting much more than a mundane, generic New Orleans history tour. The guide, Rudy, was able to provide some history that I hadn't heard before, and I'm basically a local. We had about 8 different beer tastings, and some were pretty good sized portions. I had a few beers that I didn't even know existed and will be sure to get more in the future. My favorite was the Gnarly Barley Catahoula Common because it was the perfect time for it, and I hadn't heard of it before the tour.

I checked on line prior to our visit to New Orleans and discovered that NOLA Brewery offers free tours on Friday afternoons. The tour is kind of short as it is a small brewery, but it was interesting. They have free beer tasting for about 30 minutes prior to the tour and give you a regular sized glass of one of their brews (good beer, by the way). It was a great way to spend an afternoon in a relaxing way. Too bad they have such a small distribution area, I can't get their beer in MO.

First, let me say that nothing was wrong or bad about the tour. Nothing was special, either. Our guide was personable and had memorized his "script" very well. The beers were just average. A few of the bars/restaurants we visited were quite nice. Some not so nice. All in all, for us, the experience was just average.

Thank you for your input, and we are sorry that you did not have an excellent experience. NOLA Beer Tours strives to provide 5 star service, tastings, and experience for the community.
We provide craft beer characteristic of Louisiana, and try to match the beer selection with customer preferences. However, all sixteen customers in a group do not have the same preferences. This is why we allow customers to choose their own beers at some stops. Again, we want to reiterate that we appreciate your review and will take action to improve our tours.

The tour lasted 2-1/2 - 3 hours and we stopped 5 establishments for a beverage, 2 of which offered a bite to eat. Eric, our guide, is a native of New Orleans and was great about answering questions and making recommendations (at some places, you have a choice of which beers to taste). All of the places we went were nice places (not dive bars - except maybe the last one on Bourbon Street) and one was so nice, we decided to go back for dinner just because the proprietor was so nice to us - and the red beans and rice were KILLER! (This was Evangeline's on Decatur Street - I also posted a review of dinner, too.) This is a good way to sample some tasty brews and take in a bit of a history lesson along the way. Definitely would recommend this tour to others.

Thank you for your positive review Lisa! You mentioned that we would have had all 5 stars if we had more Lagers on the tour. We did our best to cater to your lager preference and provided 6 lagers of the 9 beer tastings. We will work on getting our customers more beer choices. Again, thank you for the great review and the KILLER review of the red beans and rice!

I was in charge of a bachelor party and we were all looking for a tour of the french quarter that had history and was entertaining for a bunch of 20 somethings. This was the perfect amount of walking, french quarter history, and food/drink for a saturday afternoon. We went to a lot of very traditional/historic bars on the tour that we would never have gone in to otherwise. The tour guide was a big reason why the tour was so good. I would highly recommend attending this tour

We had such a great time. Eric not only taught us about NOLA beers but it was a history lesson as well. Very entertaining and educational. This was our favorite tour of our trip. I will definitely do this tour again and highly recommend it.
