It's the main road so hard to miss. Has a lot of the historic stops along the way. It's a good way to suss out restaurants for later in the day.

This is a great walk, over a mile long with places to just sit and enjoy the view or shop or eat. But, please do not J-walk. I was cursed out by a person 1/3 my age for doing so (and I only did because I saw him slowing down.... When he saw me, he sped up and ranted). Oh boy!

Very pretty road from the ocean to the mountain. Many beaches and free parking along the way. We enjoyed the ride. We were looking for turtles at different beaches but not success.

So sad to see several of the stores have closed along the way. Hopefully some new ones will replace them. Still plenty to see and do.

It is sad that so many storefronts are empty, but we enjoyed walking, seeing the beautiful scenery, eating the shave ice, and shopping. Ali’i Drive is a must do in Kailua-Kona.

Would have given this a excellent review, but the homeless seem to be taking over everywhere. I do sympathize, but this is part of what brings people to Hawaii...

We watched early surfers in the inlet beside us, walked to downtown to shop, eat, explore, parasailed past our condo.
Wonderful time.

Family with two teens spent an afternoon here, and loved it! We parked in the free lot across from the Farmers Market, which we enjoyed. We went to a couple thrift shops, the beautiful Kona Inn Shopping Village, walked past the palace and church, and ended up having lunch at the Kona Brewery. My 16 year-old said it was her favorite day. We bought lots of stuff. I was pleasantly surprised to see it is rebounding from the pandemic, and most things were open. Merchants were all super nice. I recommend doing research before coming here so that you have a plan and some idea of what you want to do. We walked all over so wear comfortable shoes and cool clothing. And don't forget your mask.

We visited Ali'l Drive twice during our stay on the big island in March 2021. Several shops were closed - I'm not sure if it was permanently or temporarily and I presume COVID hit them hard. There were still enough stores open yet. There was a Friday market we went to and it had interesting items - clothes, knick knacks, produce. About 12 booths total. We paid for parking both times, but it looked like there was a free public parking square near the market (it was misleading because the entrance is buried mid-block the first parking area you see on the corner is a public PAY lot). We weren't necessarily Looking for free parking (we are happy to pay and help bring back their economy and people's incomes) I state this to be informative. I was a bit taken aback by what I presume were homeless people on the sides. They weren't troubling anyone, I was just surprised by the wanderers/strangeness of them. Was approached by a woman holding suspiciious back asking ot borrow a cell phone. Not sure what that was about, the hubby is very trusting (too much sometimes) and let her borrow his cell phone - which we then heard her telling someone she "has the cash" and to "meet me at the corner" to "finish the exchange". That was a bit troublesome and after that I did not feel comfortable down there anymore......It might be "better" in full season/fully opened but I could have done without visiting two times. We enjoyed the small city farmer's markets moreso than this, although driving in the car it's a pretty drive, was not a fan of walking it after the cell phone borrowing incident...
