Nectandra was an amazing experience. It was so special to spend time with Evelyne and David and to learn about their work-- they are preserving part of the cloud forest and working closely with the surrounding rural communities to secure their water supplies. The two projects are deeply intertwined and it was a fascinating glimpse into a part of Costa Rica most don't see.

This is such a great alternative to Monte Verde if you are traveling from La Fortuna back towards San Jose or the Pacific coast. It is right on the way. We were given a private tour by the owners / founders Evelyn and David. They are a lovely couple who has devoted their lives to reforesting Costa Rica. They gave us a tour of the beautiful Cloud Forest, teaching us about the tremendous bio-diversity in the plants and animals there. Then, they served us a beautiful lunch (vegetarian based on our request) and ate along with us so we could visit some more. It felt more like enjoying a home cooked meal with locals than eating at a restaurant. Their cafe space has floor to ceiling glass windows so you can view the Cloud Forest while you eat. Afterwards they showed us a video about their work and how they are partnering with local communities to plant trees and conserve water. It is a beautiful story. This is a wonderful tour and you learn so much! I would definitely recommend this for anyone interested in science, conservation, and Cloud Forests. Thanks Evelyn and David for a wonderful visit!

This tour is a must if you're in the area. And even if you're not in the area, this is worth a trip out of your way. If you have any interest whatsoever in botany, conservation, ecology, or environmental science, you will learn so much from the tour. Plus, it's just an incredibly nice (and easy) hike through an absolutely gorgeous cloud forest. Evelynne and Arturo are wonderful hosts, giving you a master class on cloud forests and their place in the larger ecosystem. If you go, be sure your tour includes lunch. The food is amazing. I cannot recommend this place highly enough!
Unlike many tours in Costa Rica, the Nectandra Institute is truly devoted to environmentalism and preserving and expanding the diminishing cloud forests. They are not a business trying to profit off of "ecotourism". Your won't find any t-shirts or tchotchkes for sale. If you came to Costa Rica to see true environmentalism in action, then you need to tour the Nectandra Cloud Forest.

Evelyne, one of the founders, took us on an incredible tour of the facility and explained both the nature and how Nectandra works with local communities to help preserve the cloud forest. The experience is very personal and educational, and we recommend it for people who want to see a diverse cloud forest but may not have the time to spend a few days.
We also had a very nice lunch, which we recommend. The view overlooking the rainforest is fantastic, and the food was very good and very, very plentiful! Save room for dessert. We had a fantastic pineapple-papaya pie for dessert!

Running a low density, high quality tour to educate folks about this increasingly rare habitat offered us a great experience. Access to this type habitat is becoming increasingly difficult, much less accessing it with staff and managers who are actively researching and restoring it is even rarer. What an awesome experience. Walking through the forest with Arturo and Evelyne was a real treat for my wife and I, and an even larger treat for our daughter. Rather than getting a "canned" 30,000-foot overview of the cloud forest, we got into some real details, and Arturo and I were able to talk to our daughter about the plants in the cloud forest, and what their "cousins" are that she sees in our forests in the southeastern US.
The lunch break in the forest was in a great little building, and the locally sourced food was fantastic.
I can't recommend Nectandra Cloud Forest Garden enough.

Nectandra's stewards Evelyne and Arturo spent a morning with us exploring and explaining the fauna and flora of a cloud forest. Every surface offers an example of incredible adaptation and beauty (bring a camera). The changes they have seen over several decades (effects of surrounding deforestation, global warming, public policy) and their community based efforts to restore cloud forests in neighboring areas provide a fascinating window into the uncertain future for this unique and biodiverse resource. Thanks for the incredible and inspiring commitment to the planet! I also enjoyed the delicious meal in the "canopy" and the chance to spend time with permanent staff and visiting student researchers.

As part of our recent Quest for Pura Vida tour with Costa Rica Expeditions, we visited the Nectandra Cloud Forest Botanical Gardens in San Ramon, Costa Rica. What a wonderful first stop on our tour – my husband and two teenage boys thoroughly enjoyed our visit! Our tour of these beautiful gardens in the cloud forest served as a perfect introduction to the fauna and floral in Costa Rica, and we were fortunate to be escorted through the gardens by both Evelyn and Arturo, the founders of this beautiful preserve. Both were extremely knowledgeable about the animals, plants and flowers and the forest’s ecosystem. And we found their passion for preserving and regenerating the cloud forest so inspiring. They both shared so much wonderful information and pointed out many plant and animal species on our tour that we could have easily overlooked otherwise. After our tour we enjoyed a delicious lunch learning even more about the work being done by the Nectandra Cloud Forest Gardens and its sister organization, the Nectandra Institute. I highly recommend a visit to Nectandra Cloud Forest Gardens on your visit to Costa Rica – you will not be disappointed. Reservations are required

Ah, Costa Rica Expeditions! They are wonderful. I have used them as well and wherever they take us is truly an exquisite experience.
We welcome families at Nectandra such as yourselves. The adults understand immediately the importance and essence of the Costa Rica Cloud Forest. The younger people absorb and digest the information a wee bit later. It is sometimes after our vacations, that we realize how much they have understood, absorbed and digested the information. The essence of nature lives within them,
Thank-you for sharing Nectandra with your family. We are honored to have met you.

Nectandra is a perfect union of heart and head in the very challenging effort to redeem the extraordinary biodiversity of this area of Costa Rica. Scientists with a passion for restoring balance that produces, as natural, both beauty and primordial connectedness to our source. This is a place to be a student, to learn, to wonder at the next walking stick bug that looks like lichen or next leaf that is viagra for hummingbirds. Your guides are wise and humble before the fruits of their ongoing labor. You will make a reservation. YES the garden is yours for at least 4 hours and your lunch will be not only locally sourced and creatively inspired but will have you floating in a junglescape conversing with your guides. Amazing is the system of rather royal stone wide paths and even handrails where important. An important treasure and legacy

Estoy buscando opciones para comprometerme...Y mi novia es amante de este tipo de vegetación...cuanto vale el tour y existe la posibilidad de poder dar el anillo en sus instalaciones por medio del café o el almuerzo?
Saludos y gracias
