We were on a cruise and stopped in Skagway and thought it would be fun to go to Jewel Gardens and have a glassblowing experience. 4 of us bought tickets for the “glassblowing experience.” We WALKED out to Jewell Gardens (because there was no other way to get out there.) and only found the shop to be permanently closed. We called businesses around town to ask about it and they gave us Max Jewells number. He told us it was closed and “had no idea” how or why the website allowed us to pay for the tickets. He promised us that he would refund our tickets but never did. Last I checked there are still websites that are booking tickets for this non-existent experience. DISHONEST! Lowest of the low to lie and take advantage of people. DO NOT GIVE HIM ANY OF YOUR MONEY. There were plenty of other lovely things to do in Skagway. But this ISNT one of them.

This is probably the best experience of a cruise ship excursion . The artisans were very knowledgeable, fun and made sure we all had experience of "blowing the glass". True craftsmen.Our glass work arrived safely to us at home and is a nice reminder of our time in Alaska. The garden grounds are something else, absolutely beautiful.

We went to Jewell Gardens as part of a glassblowing event (there is a working studio here). The gardens themselves are beautiful and fun to walk around but the combination of the gardens with the glassblowing is what made it special.

Went with my wife and kids (9 and 7 year-old boys) on a cruise with a stopover in Skagway. Booked this thinking it might be fun and it turned out to be one of the most memorable of our trip. First: the gardens are beautiful as are the surroundings. The glassblowing was great as we each got to pick out two colors of glass and one of four different styles for how the glass would look once blown. Our kids loved this process. The demonstration was interactive and made us feel like we contributed to the glassblowing but you could tell the professional was always in charge! When the globes arrived at our home a few weeks later, we loved opening the package and seeing what we all made. It serves as a great memory of our trip. Would highly recommend it as an outing and it doesn't take too long.

We had a great time. Made beautiful glass flowers. They arrived to out home packaged very well and all in one piece. Would very much recommend.

We had a great time with the hands-on making of a glass ornament. It is an experience not to miss.
Also with the visit came a garden tour and lunch - which was great food!

Fantastic experience. We did the glass blowing and lunch. It was great, the instruction was fun and well guided. They helped us choose what we wanted to make and everything turned out beautifully. The glass was shipped to our home and arrived exactly 2 weeks after we were there. We also had lunch, the food was tasty and well prepared, as a bonus, everything came from their gardens. Even late in the season it was fun to walk through and discover all the hidden suprises. I would definitely recommend this to anyone that likes glass art, good food or gardens.

I visited the gardens and watched a glass blowing demonstration. It was booked as a tour from the cruise line so i got picked up in a bus at the dock. The gardens are a very short distance away - the bus ride only took 5 minutes. I think it would be easy to find on your own if you didn't have a tour package.
The gardens are lovely and playful and a treat for any garden enthusiast. The glass blowing studio gave a demonstration by 2 people. One made a fluted vase and the other made a clear glass fish. The gift shop has a nice assortment of items made in the studio. Jack was our tour guide and was very friendly. Overall it was a good experience.

We had a combo gardens and glass-blowing experience (we only got to watch, not experience it ourselves). The gardens were beautiful and still in bloom in September and it was fun to learn about the flowers and plants unique to Alaska. The glass-blowing was very interesting...I had always wanted to learn about it, but I was disappointed that we didn't get to experience it ourselves. This is a great way to spend a morning. They also provided us with snacks and beverages.

We visited Jewel Gardens on September 25, 2019. Amazing, creative experience that anyone can do. Safety first. We took the Smart bus from downtown and the driver pointed out city highlights.

Dilemma! I booked the white pass railway tour with Chilkoot tours with bus up at 0915 with an expected end time of 4:45pm. I was interested in doing the last glassblowing tour at 5pm. Does anyone know the grace period for jewell gardens? I’m not sure if I will have time to unload charter bus and make it to Jewell gardens from Disney cruise line pier? Any advice

My day long tour (train the morning and bus trip back down the mountain) went past the Jewell Gardens on the way back to the ship.
If you can't get off, you will not have enough time to get back.
Have you checked the full itinerary for the Railway Tour to see if you are stopping off on the way back?

Yes we booked independently. There is a local bus where you can purchase a ticket to take you to the correct stop. Worked very well. I don’t recall the cost of th bus but done think it was very much. We set up a time on line to do the glass blowing event. Seems to me we booked it for 1:00 pm which gave us plenty of time in town before catching the bus to the gardens.

A little confused, do you have to pay to get into the gardens to just walk around and view the flowers? Os is it free?

My mother and I paid an admission fee to walk around the gardens. There is also a small train display in one area. This was in August of 2018, a weekday. Perhaps it is free at other times. To be sure, based on when you will be there, I would recommend contacting them.

There is a bus called the Smart bus. It is $5 for an all day pass. It will take you out to Jewell Gardens as well as a gold panning site and a brewery which are on the same road as the gardens. Bus stops are on the main street.

Visited AK on Princess. Didn't know about the Smart Bus. Had an excursion booked and did the train up the mountains and bus back down which included Jewel Gardens. They have a shuttle and will let you off in town so you can look around. No such things as reasonably priced excursions, so we just set a budget for the trip and found excursions that fit within the total budget.
