Admission was $4 per adult and $2 for teens and free for children 12 and younger. Admission was payable at the kiosk at the entrance or next to the gift shop. Per Washington state requirements we had to show proof of vaccination before being allowed inside. Physical card or photo was accepted.

It was warm and a bit humid inside which was a nice contrast to the cold Seattle weather we escaped for a short while. Hot water piping provided the heat and sometimes blended or stood out depending on the room.

A total of five different tropical environments were showcased inside.
The Victorian design was inspired by the Crystal Palace in London.

At the entrance (Palm and Fern Rooms) there were lots of orchids, palm trees, tiny pond, carnivorous pitcher plants and short bios on various botanists. A very small gift shop on the other side also sold some of the plants seen in the conservatory. The path was one way one circling through the conservatory in a clockwise direction.

The first main room (Bromeliad) was full of green plants and some were flowering in bright colors. Benches were setup under a patio.

Another section (Seasonal) was setup for Christmas with a model train track in the center, lots of poinsettia pots and a single chair (maybe for Santa)?

The Cactus section anchored the end of the conservatory and contained a large variety of small and large cactus from around the world.

Worth a stop if visiting Volunteer Park now that it’s open.

A lovely place for a stroll, a jog, or a picnic on the grass. Great views of Seattle from here. Plus there is an Asian arts museum on site ( but check for hours open.)

Volunteer Park houses the Conservatory and is right beside the cemetery where Bruce & Brandon Lee are buried. We were looking for the cemetery when we found this place. There were very unique cacti in the Conservatory. There was a tree sculpture. The Black Hole Sun is a sculpture in Volunteer Park in Seattle. You can see the Space Needle through the center if you get the right angle. Wish we had more time to explore.

Great place to visit on a cold windy afternoon, take the bus or drive your car. You cannot miss it, as the 100 years plus Conservatory has a granite monument to Judge Thomas Burke standing right Infront of it. The Conservatory has an assortment of flora exhibits ranging from the Clise Orchid Collection to Blue Agave and Golden Barrel cactus, check out the Bromeliad or fern House displays, there is one area just for hydrangea displays .
All the staff that we met were volunteers and very knowledgeable, expressing great enthusiasm for the facilities displays. All the plants were well maintained and carefully labeled, there is even a gift shop for souvenirs for those hard to buy for people.

TIP: Good walking shoes are a must, and please resist the temptation to try and take sneaky cuttings.

Took my friend here for her birthday (followed by a delicious lunch). For a small fee you can wander around and photograph all the spectacular plants from warmer climates. Small waterfall and ponds. Seating scattered about. A nice break to warm chilly winter fingers and toes!

This is a small but beautiful conservatory nestled in Seattle's Volunteer Park. It has some really lovely specimens, worth the time of any plant lover. It is staffed by friendly and helpful volunteers.

On the same day that we visited the Amazon Spheres we also visited the Volunteer Park Plant conservatory. While this Victorian style conservatory built in 1912 and modeled on a mini Crystal palace certainly can't match the wow factor of the Spheres it more than made up for it in Charm and I could not help but think that the plants in this old conservatory were much happier!

Brimming with hydrangea and verdant greenery. Cacti as well.
Plant lovers will enjoy their artistry.
Good for kids too.
I go a few times annually.

Beautiful displays of plants, especially succulents....better than those I've seen in my home town botanic gardens. Also a lovely fall display integrating seasonal and permanent species. A real delight. Loved the dahlia gardens nearby as well.
