Solid Place

Stopped for drinks and light fare when we got to town. Staff was really helpful. Bloody Mary and Basil Strawberry Smash were divine. Margarita pizza very good and antipasto chopped salad was awesome! Staff even gave great recommendations for waterfront dinner. Thanks folks!

A Beer List to Die For
2018年5月 • 好友
A mortuary converted into a beer bar? Yes. At the corner of Melrose and Pine (inspiration for the name "Pine Box") with an excellent selection of local and regional beers and mostly sharable appetizer-style snacks. Decor is more bar-like, but architectural remnants of the building's original purpose remain.

Fun Place for Beer and LIGHT Food

We stayed at the Springhill Suites nearby and walked to the pub. Super cool inside!! Lots of beer to choose from. Staff was fine, definitely more focused on their regulars than tourists. But, it was a nice experience. It's a renovated Chapel/Funeral Home that has retained much of its decor and charm. Booths are reclaimed pews!

A Great Name
2016年12月 • 夫妻情侣
I had never seen bars advertising themselves as "child friendly"until we visited Seattle this month. I guess it goes with the genial vibe that the city emits, including legal pot and a general attitude that "let's enjoy ourselves."
The Pine Box began life as a funeral home, hence the too good to resist new name when it changed its purpose.
At least according to one account that I heard but couldn't verify, Bruce Lee's funeral was held here during its mortuary days. Among the pall bearers were Steve McQueen and James Coburn.
We went on the recommendation of our daughter (Seattle resident).
There is much more to the place than a clever name.
The large bar is surrounded by lots of room for booths as well as a kind of extra bar facing the main bar for the patrons to drink and talk while standing. The large booths are ideal for congenial conversation and for taking advantage of the large selection of beers of all sorts as well as ciders and wine.
On our last visit on a Saturday night the place was filled but did not feel crowded. In addition, in line with the Seattle feeling, everyone seemed to be there for the same general purpose, to enjoy their friends and drink good beer.
Our party of four were enjoyed exactly that.
Not only does the management do a great job with the amazing selection, but they manage the dispensing of food and drink in an excellent way. Each of the three times we visited, the server (each different) was friendly and helpful, providing samples, making suggestions and doing a great job of making the visit pleasant.
We decided that perhaps a pizza would be appropriate. One of our party got a custom version that included great humus, feta, and pita....much better than a pizza.....and nicely improvised by the Pine Box's kitchen....

Who Died?

Beer selection: respectable, albeit more limited than expected.
Service: Rigormortis set in

Not clear whether the bartender was a Zombie, but I'm feeling that I over-tipped for the non-existent service after the first beer -- which turned out to be the last one despite my wife's comment that she only wanted a 12 oz because she wanted to try several.

We left to find more lively options, ending up at Fremont Brewing.

Great selection of local brews

This is located inside an old mortuary with a choir loft still intact. Great selection of local brews. We had the sage & parmesan popcorn for a snack.

Excellent Beer Selection friendly knowedgeable staff
Located in an old funeral home at the top of Pine Street( great name huh), this place was recommended by a friend. Really interesting beer range from craft brewers across the country and breweries across the globe. There were more than 27 taps plus handpulls, all quite interesting and weighted towards sours and fresh hopped ales when we visited, time of year I guess, with taps constantly changed out with new beers and a randal for flavouring beers.
Staff had personality, were genuinely friendly and made great recommendations. Casual bar food was a little average and very limited wine options, but a great spot for ales at the end of the day. Decor...the place has so much character i dont think it needed the Ghost theme, really nice vibe though and well worth a visit for neer lovers.

Beers and a funeral....great combo
2014年7月 • 夫妻情侣
Knowledgable, quirky staff that despite the busy bar will chat with you, take your pic and ensure you get exactly the beer you crave. We truly enjoyed this unique, once funeral parlor setting in Capitol Hill for its great beer list, friendly patrons and ambience of busy yet chill folks. As Chicagoans, we were delighted to see so many midwest choices make the list such as Jolly Pumpkin from Michigan. A wonderful spot for a beer lovers, bring a friend and split a bottle of Cascade or choose from the many, many taps of wonderment.
