We were waiting for the Lincoln home NHS to open on a Sunday morning and thought we'd take a peek at this church. The church itself is within the NHS, but when the Park Service took over the neighborhood it was given an exemption as long as it remained a house of worship.
Of course, this building was not here in Lincoln's time - in Lincoln's day, the church was using a different structure at another address. However, Lincoln's neighbor, Francis Springer, was the pastor who originally formed the church and originally held services in his home. By 1854, the church elders authorized the purchase of the lot at this location to build a sanctuary, and Lincoln pledged $20 to help with the construction of this church building.
Flashing forward to our visit, we were very impressed both with the exterior, but particularly the interior of the sanctuary itself - including the beautiful large stained glass window featuring Martin Luther and impressive vaulted ceiling with wood beams. By the way, the steeple is one of only two all stone church steeples in the country.

This is a fabulous Lutheran Church. Beautiful exterior architecture. The inside is equally lovely. I love historic buildings. We enjoyed the service and the people were friendly.

Beautiful church next to the Lincoln Home National Monument. Stainglass windows are very beautiful. This is a historic church. Very friendly pastor.

This is a beautiful church building with friendly people serving there. It is the only church actually located within the National Park Service historical area surrounding the Lincoln Home site. Abraham Lincoln spoke very highly of the pastor (of his day) of this church while he lived nearby. The current staff is doing some very good ministry and were very friendly to us when we visited.
