We zijn niet binnen geweest, waren ook niet zeker of het open was op een zondag, maar hebben in de tuin rondgelopen en hadden het geluk een parade van hulpdiensten, moto's en Jeep (Wranglers) te mogen aanschouwen die voor het capitool passeerden.

It’s free and can easily spend a couple hours here. It’s stunning and majestic. There are people around that can offer additional details about the architecture and what the rooms were utilized for back in the day. There’s some wonderful photo opportunities, and the staircase is something to behold

Went in July which is really a very quiet period in Springfield. Capitol was almost empty except for security and some staff. The 20-30 minute tour is free and will take you through the highlights of the capitol.
If you are a non-US citizen do use the opportunity to get some insight into the state and federal political system from the guide.

This was our 15th Capitol visit and by far the worst. It was only 20 minutes long. The tour guide obviously rehearsed a script. No house floor, only from the balcony. Senate side is closed, it’s being remodeled.

This was a nice, informative visit to the Illinois State Capitol. We parked for free in the Visitors Complex walk and then had a short walk to the Capitol. It was easy to take a tour. The tour was short (20 minutes) but informative. As of March 2024, the building is under construction and we were unable to see the Senate side of the building. My 16-year-old daughter really enjoyed the visit and it was one of her favorite spots during our trip.

This capitol is amazing. Bigger than the one in DC but that one sits on a hill so it looks bigger. They are doing some renovations so call to make sure tours are happening.

Visited with my friend. It was a long drive from Chicago. It was raining when we began and it continued till half way. It was enjoyable after that.
We saw the state Congress and Courts. Majestic structures.
But most enjoyable was visit to Union Station, Lincoln Memorial, Museum and the great man’s house. Really gave insight into his nature. Unfortunately the Presidential Library was closed. Surprising that it remains closed on weekends when maximum tourists can be expected. I hope that in future they will entertain tourists on weekends.
The staff everywhere were very friendly and well trained for their jobs.
All in all it was a memorable trip.

We spent the final day of our road trip in Springfield Illinois and decided to visit the State Capitol (which hadn’t been open the last time I was here). Our GPS had us turning in circles due to the amount of road works near to the Capitol and the One Way Streets. There are lots of car parking lots - but they all seem to be by Permit only. We eventually found a 2 hour slot and picked our way thru the extensive works that were ongoing at one side of the Capitol. It’s a stunning building outside and gets better inside. We signed the Visitor book and we’re offered a guided tour. We usually self-tour but we’re told that it would take 20 minutes only - so we did the tour. It was very informative and allowed to see a bit more than we might otherwise. The usual free entry, Wi-Fi and restrooms complete the attraction.

Are there any changes to the tour schedule due to COVID 19? If no, are tours first come first serve or can times be reserved?

I am a guide at the Capitol and I want to clarify the days and hours. Monday - Friday tours are every 30 minutes from 8:00am - 4:00 pm No Tours from 12:00 until 1:00. Last tour is at 4;00. Weekend and holidays tours start at 9:00am - 3:00pm HOURLY. There are only 6 days a year that the building is closed and tours are not available New Years Day, Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving and the Friday after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve Day and Christmas Day. WEEKENDS visitor must enter through the employee entrance, north side of building by circular drive. Thanks and please come visit our beautiful Capitol.

Sat open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. closed 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. for lunch.....if you have the chance to go see it, it worth it....

There is parking around the capital with parking meters. The longest is am hour at a time. I believe...I was there last year and they had some kind of construction going on, and out side they had a temporary walk way. You will go through a medical detector of course.

WE found a fun place to eat a couple blocks south of the Capitol, near Cook St and 2nd, called Julia's. The lots of choices on the menu, including sandwiches. Good food!
