The Stata Center is an interesting building architecturally but certainly not on par with The Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, the Gerry’s masterpiece. It seems a little out of place in Cambridge and looks slightly eclectic. Regardless, Frank Gehry is a great master of modern architecture and it is always a pleasure to see his creations.

A longtime fan of the architecture of Frank Gehry, our visit to the MIT campus to see and experience its wide variety of architectural styles included a stop at the Stata Center! The building is so unique...whimsical in some ways...but totally breathtaking! With every few steps and turns, the view changes. Be sure to see it from both its street-facing front on Vassar Street as well as its rear face off Compton Court. And enjoy the reflections too...other buildings as well as you and yours! Unfortunately due to COVID, campus buildings are closed until the fall term so we could not go inside to see what Gehry has created there.

MIT Stata Center is one of the signature buildings in MIT. It’s an amazing and interesting architecture covered with lots of irregularly shaped mirrors.

People love to play with their reflections and take funny photos. The mirrors were assembled in weird angles and curved into different shapes so you can have your imagination to make funky poses.

I photograph here frequently as I am doing a project on Frank Gehry architecture. Interesting spaces outdoors on the different levels. Some access requires an MIT identification for the upper stories of the building. But, the lobby and second floor are open to the public. There is a very interesting nursery space on the first floor as well.

If you have love for architecture, this is place cannot be missed in your visit to Boston. Frank Gehry is one of the most influential architects this Century famous for his modernist contemporary architecture style. His approach to building this center is to juggle and compress building of different shapes into one. You'll be amazed when you take a closer look at these buildings, especially the mirror-like aluminum one that reflects images. He has also applied intricate details to the interior design, which makes this center playful with high appreciative value.

This is the kind of building that gives modern architecture a bad name. Typical Gehry, in this case with no thought for any of the practicalities of actually using it or working in it. Aside from the ongoing extensive repairs and renovations -- leaks are common -- it makes no sense either from inside or outside. Too bad for the donors, and for MIT after all the massive cost overruns. For this much money, and for this important location, it should not have been an ugly building.

As a fan of Frank Gehry (see Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto), we stopped off to see this building at MIT on our way to Harvard. Well worth seeing...it’s playfulness, geometry, use of materials is very appropriate for a technical institution. Loved it’s off balance look.

I have to admit. When there are so many historic and beautiful buildings to see in Boston and Cambridge, this building leaves me unimpressed. Sure, it's interesting, but it does not seem like the kind of installation that will be timelessly revered like so much of Boston and Cambridge. It might be timelessly puzzling or humorous, but perhaps that can be achieved without occupying so much valuable real estate.
