The museum is located in downtown Manassas. The people at the museum are all very knowledgeable of the area and the battles. They are getting ready for renovations to the museum, so they will be moving to the train station on a temporary basis. Overall a great museum.

Wonderful place for learning about Manassas's history. For me was very interesting know more about the confederacy's soldiers also I learned about General Thomas Jackson. He was a great leader and his legacy continues for ever and ever.

This was our first stop on our Eastern History tour and my husband and I were very impressed with all the information they can pack into one small museum. We enjoyed the artifacts a lot and the staff was helpful and very friendly. Free tour was awesome too.

I was extremely excited to visit the historic Liberia Plantation in Manassas, which is open to visitors one day a month. Despite the fact that the city clearly has invested significnant resources in refurbishing this historic home, the volunteer docent who gave our tour was so deficient in his knowledge of both the home itself and the history of the area that this tour was a total waste of time, and clearly frustrating for all those who had taken time out of their Saturday to visit and learn about this property. Examples of the misinformation given include the suggestion that Robert “King” Carter was actual royalty, and otherwise referred to as “that important guy.” Every other question was met with the response “I would have to look that up,” which extended even to the identity of the individuals in the only portraits on display, and the origins of any of the few items of furniture in the home. Most of the tour participants simply wandered off at the end of the tour, and could be heard muttering different iterations of confusion and dismay. This tour experience was insulting to all those who have donated items and funds to the refurbishment of Liberia Plantation. Hopefully the city will take efforts to improve upon what could be an interesting site.

Went to see a bit of history today and stopped at the battlefield of Manassas. We toured the fields and the museum which held some relics, a small gift shop, and a theater with an audio story. They also offer 2 guided tours at 11 and 2 pm.

FREE museum.
This is a lovely little museum with a very helpful, informative staff. They were able to answer all my questions. Some of the exhibits are permanent and others change every couple of months. Good for children and adults. They have a lovely gift shop.

The first battle of the Civil War was fought just down the road at Bull Run Creek and the history of Manassas, Virginia, was built on its prominence as a transportation hub. So it is appropriate that the Manassas Museum displays an extensive exhibit of the Civil War era and the city's railroad background. But visitors to the museum, located at 9101 Prince William Street, are treated to much more. Like Liberia, an 1825 plantation house that served as headquarters for Confederate and Union generals during the Civil War and also was visited by Presidents Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis. The 7,000-square-foot building, which opened in 1991, also interprets the history of the Northern Virginia Piedmont through artifacts, documents and images, the settlement of the region and the impact of the Civil War on the community. Finally, it explores the city's rich history from Native Americans to the present day. The museum, which was founded in 1973, Manassas' centennial, is only 30 miles from Washington DC and is visited by many tourists whose first stop in Prince William County usually is at the nearby Bull Run battlefield.

This is a must stop before or after touring the battle fields to give you a more complete feel for the times. The exhibits are neat and well arranged. However, the lighting seems to glare off the exhibit interpretive signage making it a bit difficult to read.

Displays cover the entire history of the Manassas area, from settlement to modern times. A very nice museum, as small museums go. Well worth the time I spent. And such friendly people.

And they have maps and directions to other sights around Manassas (unlike the visitor center across the street).
