Excellent rainy morning adventure with youn children. The children’s area allows movement and multi sensory interaction. The exhibits and displays are well done and easy to navigate.

If you like dinosaurs, then this is a spot for you. One exhibit gives you a glimpse of Georgia and its historic ties to science. The other exhibit is for shells, The 3D movie was okay, but didn't have any real 3D features to it, which was actually fine by me. It was an extra bonus to our visit. The trail had two options. It is well shaded, just be prepared with water to drink depending on how far you go on it. It is smaller than other science museums we've been to, so keep that in mind before you go.

I didn’t know what to expect on this tour. But it turned out to be a pleasant one. The different cultures from different parts of the world, the science part and the various animals. Children will love this place. Planning to take my kids for a visit. So many incredible things to see

I think this museum would have been great if it wouldn't have been so hot outside and we could have really enjoyed the outside walking paths. The exhibits were just ok in my kids opinion. We did however, enjoy the movie about human bodies, although the 3D wasn't working, which was ok with us!

We love taking our grandchildren, but it was nice to take our time and do the things we found most interesting.
The IMAX on the Human Body moved me to tears a couple of times.
I totally had not expected that!
We loved the Mirror Maze! Was really hard to keep our bearings.
The Georgia History Timeline had very well-done taxidermy and murals.
Of course, just to see the amazing dinosaur skeletons right when you walk in are always a treat!
We played tourist and took advantage of the CityPass deals at the Aquarium, World of Coke, and Fernbank, so it paid for itself.
We didn't realize that all attractions must be completed within 9 days of beginning, so we don't have time for the Zoo or Civil Rights Museum or Football Hall of Fame, but it was still worth it.

Escape the city in the city. The forest walk immediately restores your soul. I even saw a cardinal. The museum is set out in a very educational manner but the exhibitions are dark. Problematic for people with poor eyesight. Enthusiastic amateur geology volunteers.

Underwhelming as a natural science museum and not worth the price. I got through all of the exhibits in less than 1 hour. I went as part of the city pass ticket, so it was reasonable as part of that package price. Most impressive were the dinos out front, the Dino skeletons just inside, and the shell collection. There was a nice dino diorama and artwork within the Georgia exhibit, too, but otherwise very routine and minimal.
If I had kids, I could see where this is a fun place with hands-on learning activities and the playgrounds in the woods. The woods were enjoyable to walk through and peaceful since it was the end of the day. However, know that when they say closes at 5pm, they actually mean 4:50pm with all doors locked by 4:55pm. While I was outside, an employee told me they close at 5 but I had time (it was 4:43) to finish the walk. As I was on the path back around, I heard an employee yelling into the woods that the museum was now closed. I looked at the time and it was 4:50. I yelled back that I was on my way up. I was at the bottom, so it took me a few minutes to get back up, and when I got to doors, they were all barred and the security guard was walking the other direction. I walked around the terrace thinking there might be an exit directly to the parking lot, but it was a brick wall. I went back to the doors, and he was there glaring at me and didn't unbar the doors to let me in until I got right up to the door. It was 4:57pm and I was in my car leaving before 5pm. I understand they don't want people walking outside since they're closing, but one set of doors should have remained unlocked with a security guard turning people away inside, not making it difficult for people trying to comply with leaving.
Other negative is the cafe and gift shop were entirely cashless. I wanted to get a pressed penny but not the whole set of 4 if I paid with a card. I had only a $10 and no $1s, and no one was able to break it for me. Personally, I prefer using cash since it helps limit my spending, but this place likes paying bank fees on transactions I gues and inflating their prices to spread the cost to the consumers.
If you have time and kids, it might be a good way to spend a couple of hours, but otherwise, this is a skippable place.

The kids loved the museum. We spent around 3 hours there. Plenty of things to see and do. Most of the time was spent at the play and exploration area. The outside trail and play area was the best for the kids. The 3D movie was great with awesome shots. Would definitely go back.

I’ve been to Fernbank a few times since I was a kid. I used to beg my parents to take me here, if only for the dinosaurs. Now, going back, it just seems like an aging museum whose displays are in desperate need of an update. The “Walk Through Time In Georgia” was the worst offender in this regard. All the signage was from the 80’s, half the films didn’t play, the taxidermy animals and the scenery were falling apart, and don’t even get me started on the dinosaurs; they looked less like the current state of the science and more like Godzilla film rejects. All the other smaller exhibits scattered around have the same problem as the Walk, with the added insult of being so small and tucked away that they’re easy to miss.
It’s not all bad. The temporary exhibits on the first floor are usually pretty cool; they’ve had ones on vikings, spiders, and the science of color, to name a few recent ones. The NatureQuest thing on the third floor looks cool too, though I doubt anyone over the age of ten would want to set foot in it, and the Fantastic Forces exhibit is fun for that slightly older age cohort. The IMAX films they show are usually mildly interesting; when I went, they were showing one about blue whales that was pretty enjoyable. The newer outdoor area is pretty enjoyable too; I even took off my shoes and enjoyed the cool water running through this fake creek area they had for kids. What? When it’s July in Atlanta, you’ll do anything to keep yourself cool, even if it means embarrassing yourself in public.
The facilities themselves are pretty nice. Bathrooms are clean (if dated) and accessibility doesn’t seem to be an issue… if the elevators are working. Also, parking is free, and anywhere I can park in this city without forking over $10 or more gets an A+ in my book.
Final verdict? It would be better if they gave the whole thing a massive overhaul, but for the time being, it’s a halfway decent, bare minimum museum. It’s not worth the $30 a person they charge; maybe $15 at the most, but that’s pushing it. If you’ve read all this and you’ve still got your heart set on it, find somewhere that offers discounts. Take the kids if you’d like, but don’t expect them to be entertained around every corner.

While the 3D movie was decent, for 2 adults this was a fairly disappointing experience, and I’m glad it was one of the bonus tickets for our CityPass. There’s not much to do and look at for such a large building and the amount of acres it takes up. However, the special exhibition hall was closed so maybe that would have improved it. The dinosaur bones exhibit was impressive.

Well, I suppose it depends on taste and the age of your kids if you're taking any. For me, a small exhibit on the top floor in a little room on the explorer DeSoto and his travels into Georgia (and beyond) was the neatest thing. The collection of items from digs along his trail is small, but fascinating. I think my wife liked the natural history part best. My kids, who are young, loved the board walk area outside. We were there in early spring and the weather was perfect for them to play out there. The rotating exhibit on the first floor was cool, but may have changed by now.

Yes, there is a parking lot next to the building with an additional lot within a short walking distance.

Is there a place you can sit and eat your own lunch? Can you bring in food? Water bottle?
撰写日期:2016年12月10日
Yes, you are welcone to bring your own lunch. There are several places you can eat, including a table in te Fernbank Cafe, on the patio, or one of the benches surrounding the dinosaurs in the Great Hall. No food or drinks are allowed in exhibition galleries. It's preferred that you not eat on the outside paths, as there are very few trash receptacles in the natural woodlands and the forest. Otherwise feel free to bring you own and enjoy!

Driving down i75 aon a road trip and wondering how far the museum is from our route.

We typically recommend people plan a minimum of 1 1/2 hours for a fast-paced, casual visit. Allow for just under an hour for IMAX, in addition to the museum visit. As others have noted, if you want to engage more with the content, including reading panels, watching videos, etc., you should allow yourself more time. Often people spend close to an hour in the special exhibition area, and children tend to spend a lot of time (as long as their parents will let them stay!) in NatureQuest (the children's exhibit). Next summer, when we open the outdoor additions, you'll want to allow for a couple more hours (as we'll have added both the 65-acre old-growth Fernbank Forest AND a nature experiential zone in the 8 acres just behind the museum).
