One of the best historical house tours and I’ve been on many. Nearly everything in the home is original and the story telling is insightful and nothing you will find online. The windows witching were a special treat!

We've been to Concord and Old North Bridge many times, always passing by the Old Manse but never entering. We reserved a guided tour on the Trustees website and are so glad we did. Richard was absolutely fantastic: he is a great storyteller, filled with passion about local and US history. We kept him overtime on the tour but he didn't seem to mind. This is absolutely worthwhile - it gave us new understanding of the American Revolution and of the philosophical enlightenments of the 1840s. Made us proud to be from Boston!

My son and I loved visiting this home. The tour guide was fantastic she knew the history and wove a story to include everyone that was related and who had lived there. Going through the home gave you a good idea how life was then. I also thought the grounds around the house were so lovely and I could just feel the history,

This guided tour of the home is a must if you are in the area of Concord and Lexington. We had an excellent tour guide who really knew his history. The guided tour lasted 45 minutes. The etchings in the window by the family members were priceless. The home was beautiful and sat right next to the North Bridge, another historic sight not to miss. The admission for a guided tour was $12 for an adult and it was well worth it. There was a nice little gift shop at the end of the tour. Their was ample parking for this home on the property and a bigger lot across the street. It's about a 15 minute walk from downtown Concord.

Would have loved to see the inside! COVID closed it but will return to visit when open. Enjoy the plague and view of the home from across the street.

The Old Manse is a Georgian clapboard house built in 1770. It was built for patriot minister William Emerson. Here is where pivotal moments in our nation’s early history occurred. Just a short walk from this yard is where the famous battle of April 19, 1775, took place at the Old North Bridge. Some of New England’s most esteemed literary minds found inspiration inside its walls. In the 19th century, both Ralph Waldo Emerson and Nathaniel Hawthorne both lived in The Manse for awhile.
Emerson drafted his influential essay “Nature” in an upstairs study. Meanwhile, Hawthorne and his wife, Sophia, started their married life here. The heirloom vegetable garden was originally planted by Henry David Thoreau in honor of the Hawthornes’ wedding. So much history here, one can almost feel the vibes.

We toured the family home of Ralph Waldo Emerson (also a property once rented to newly wed Nathaniel Hawthorne). Our docent, Prentiss, discussed a series of strong, independent women who resided there; many overshadowed by their more famous male counterparts. One of the most interesting was Mary Moody Emerson, Waldo's aunt. Her mother Phebe held her while her father, William (the "patriot minister"), skirmished with the British on 4/19/1775. Though she never married, she molded her nephew in important ways and assisted others in the community as well. Another was Hawthorne's wife, Sophia, an important painter in her own right. The tour was great -- make time for it.

Avoid at all costs. Cancelled our booking on the morning of our stay. Did not follow booking.com procedure, disgusting!

This was my second trip to the Old Manse, this time to introduce a former English teacher colleague to the site. If you love literature, you’ll be thrilled to know that the house was owned by the Emersons of Concord. Not only did Ralph Waldo Emerson pen much of Nature there, but later the newlyweds - Nathaniel and Sophia Hawthorne resided their for three years. Looking out their upstairs window, the Emersons viewed the beginning of the Revolutionary War - the Battle of Concord, another wonderful site commemorating the brave farmers who stood strong against the British troops.

I stopped here on a lark and I was pleasantly surprised. A great tour guide took me through the house and she was both effervescent and knowledgeable. I learned so much about Hawthorne and was able to ask questions that the guide answered fully. This is a beautiful setting and so worth a stop.
