We had to find something to do before catching a flight at BWI (we were coming in from Harper's Ferry) and this town was an amazing find. The old downtown is really lovely, with tree lined streets, historic buildings, great architecture, clean streets, charming shops. No graffiti in sight. The Carroll Creek Park looks to be a nice example of urban redevelopment with nice gardens, water features, shady places to relax.

We learned that this is the 2nd largest city in Maryland. This area is filled with restaurants, shopping and professional offices. Very clean. Does have uneven sidewalks for those who this might affect they may find it hard to walk.

Frederick is a model small town. The city center has done a good job of preserving historic facades and spaces, complete with tree-lined streets and a beautifully modernized water feature called Carroll Creek Park near the city center, which is lined with boutiques and restaurants. The many specialty shops are charming, and the bars and bistros each have a character of their own. Cuisines from all over the world can be found in the many restaurants spread all over the historic district. There are no in-town chain hotels, and the B&Bs are pricey, but there are hotel circles nearby, and a 13-minute Uber ride gets you into town without having to worry about parking. Once there, you will find walkable, tree-lined one-way streets and a lively buzz with lots of interesting things to see, hear, smell and eat.

We very much enjoyed using the Downtown Frederick Walking Tour we picked up at the Visitor Center as a guide. This historic area is punctuated by some truly relaxing and beautiful areas, including the Carroll Creek Park. The water lilies, walking areas, and bridges are picture-perfect and a perfect place for a picnic or to sit and watch the world go by.

I wasn’t aware of how wonderful Frederick is. Boy was I surprised. This is the most beautiful downtown in the day trip and weekend getaway area of the mid Atlantic I’ve visited. Came here for Monacacy battlefield. Stayed an extra day for the food and culture of downtown. Keys baseball was a bonus. The creek park is astounding. What a great place to spend some time.

Beware!!!! Frederick downtown area is looking to give senior citizens a ticket. Red light cameras at every corner leading to National Museum of Civil War Medicine . During weekdays some parking on the street turns in no parking loading zone even though parking spaces are marked with white lines and you have used app to pay for parking. In the end, it cost me over $100 to see museum and pay parking fine. Just not worth it.

Wife and I decided to take the self-guided walking tour to see the sights and learn about the town. Very enjoyable and informative. Be sure to visit the Frederick Visitors Center first to pick up the pamphlet - and to get up to 3 hours free parking while you walk. Well worth your time.

There are some by the creek, but don’t recall any in the shopping area. You can always grab a cup of coffee in the many coffee shops and sit down. If you go, enjoy!

We r senior citizens. Hubby has a mobility scooter what can we do for several hrs other than a casino which is nice while family goes white water rafting

Where can i stay that is the nearest to the downtown area. I'm with my elderly mom and grandmother and I'd like them to be able to enjoy the parks and things without having to drive everywhere

There are several Bed and Breakfasts in the downtown historic district that might be ideal for you - one is the Hill House B&B at 12 W 3rd St, architecturally one of the nicest streets downtown and very close to Baker Park, Market St. and the Carroll Creek Park walk.
Also there is a vacation home Creekside House at 24 S Court St.
You can Google these separately or go to
Visit Frederick website for full lists of accomodations downtown, and also is a great guide for walking tours with maps of the downtown area.

As with most areas, it depends on the section of downtown you want, but in most of the area you're looking at $1000 - $2000 per month for a two bedroom (in most cases, one bath) apartment. The closer you get to the Carroll Creek, Shab Row, Baker Park area the higher the rent.

In Downtown there is a candle light house tour. You buy tickets and walk through houses that are on the tour. Very nice thing to do. There is also a tour through churches that are dressed up for Christmas.
