I sent a letter also containing a SAE for return delivery stating I was attending the Sandye Place Academy " The Final Farewell" 14 th July and asked for information, maps, leaflets etc of the surround area, which was returned within a few days. We visited the Jordans Mill and museum which was unfortunately closed but had a lovely walk round the gardens and used the cafe, and sat outside watching the wildlife and the river. All paperwork very interesting. Hadn't been to Sandy since 1974, and left the school in 1971. Was lovely to return, well done tourist information. Very efficient.

Cutbacks mean that Barry Groom who has been at this office for many years is not there anymore and the hours such as they are is minimal. Not many in Sandy know this is still available or what hours and days they they are open. Yet another nail in Sandys coffin

Sadly the irrepressible Barry Groom has now been dispensed with at this useful community facility but it is still extant but only open the same times as the Town Council Offices and has no permanent member of staff although the Town Council staff will help as much as they can. As there's nobody in charge of it any longer some of the information is not always up to date but they will help as much as possible. Also an interesting small display about the Roman origins of Sandy.

Not a big place, but plenty of information. Lovely greeting from male volunteer, who was happy to answer questions and point us in the right direction. Although lived in Bedfordshire in the 80's di not know Sandy well. Info given on bus routes. Trains. Mentioned
We liked a bit of walking, info on walking groups. Walks to explore Sandy.

I wanted to visit St George's Church at Edworth Manor Farm in Bedfordshire County, north of London. I knew that my ancestors, the Spencers, had lived there in the 1500s. We wanted to take a day trip from London to Edworth and then go on to Cambridge for the afternoon. I could see online how to take the train from London to Biggleswade (a nearby town) and from Biggleswade on to Cambridge and back to London. However, getting to Edworth (about 2 miles from Biggleswade) was a challenge. I had heard about Tourist Information Centres (TIC) in England, and I can't recommend the nearest one in Sandy enough! Through email they directed me to the local taxi companies whom our concierge in London contacted. They also suggested that we take a bus to Cambridge rather than backtracking on a train, and they told us where to get the bus. They also mentioned that the bus would drop us off in the middle of Cambridge rather than on the outskirts where the train station is. The taxi picked us up at the train station in Biggleswade and took us right to the door of St George's church in Edworth. We asked if he could come back and pick us up in an hour, which he did. This was plenty of time to look around. The friendly owner of Edworth Manor Farm, David Smyth, talked with us and showed us the old church records. He was so helpful. The taxi came back in an hour and took us to the bus station in Great Barford in front of the Chinese restaurant! The bus came in 10-15 minutes and took us to the center of Cambridge where we spent a wonderful afternoon before taking the train back to London. We couldn't have navigated this side trip so successfully without the excellent advise and responsiveness of Rosalind and Barry at the Sandy TIC!
