Small but very informative
2021年9月 • 独自旅游
I have spent the past month traveling along the Mississippi River and visiting Indian Mound sites. Two things in particular set this site apart. First, it was visited by Europeans while it was still active, and they reported what they saw, so we have additional information about how the site was used beyond what archaeologists can find. (These reports have been helpful in interpreting other Mississippian sites). Second, the gift shop here has by far the most extensive collection of books on both historic and prehistoric Native Americans of any of the sites I have visited (including big ones like Cahokia and Poverty Point). There was no admission charge and the woman behind the desk was very friendly.

A very interesting example of early relations between the Natchez and Europeans
2021年8月
There is not much here other than the mounds but there is a film describing the history of the Natchez peoples and their interaction with the Europeans. There are helpful displays at each of the important areas of the grounds.

An Indian holy area that is now also a beautiful park

There is a small museum and a very nice park to enjoy. It was too hot for us to spend a day in the end of July. but it is historic and is very pleasant

Begin your history tour of Natchez here!
2021年4月
Natchez is a town filled with history, and its fitting therefore, to start one's experience at the Grand Village where the First Nation Natchez built ceremonial burial mounds and practiced their faith. The museum, although small, is filled with information and artifacts regarding the culture of the Natchez people, from both pre-Columbian times and throughout their struggles with various colonizers. There's also information regarding local flora and fauna of the region. The bookstore houses an impressive selection of books regarding the Natchez people. colonization and southern history. The grounds are beautifully maintained and there are areas to picnic under broad leafy trees. Be warned, that the nature trail may be muddy and buggy at certain times of year. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. In particular, Janice went above and beyond to share her love of Natchez and her pride in the state of Mississippi, providing me with pamphlets and brochures of areas of interest. The perfect first stop on the Natchez history tour!

Worth a stop
2021年4月
The Grand Village of the Natchez Indians is another interesting stop. Be sure you see the short video to get a true appreciation of the people who once lived there. Their small museum has numerous artifacts excavated from the mounds. The mounds themselves are not much to see, but it’s free so well worth the stop.

Interesting small museum, good video overview
2021年4月
This was a pleasant side trip with a nice, well managed museum (rather small but still very good). There is also a short introductory video which is worth your time. The mounds are a short walk away but there is no path - someone using a walker or cane might have trouble.

Clean facilities and an informative film the park attendants will show you for free. This is a donation only park with a great gift shop and very informative small museum. Guest can walk and take pictures from. The top of the mounds and for the adventurous there is a trail down to the creek.
