The gallery boasts so many photos of old-time Natchez. One of the photos that made me sad was of the Aldrich family on the porch of their lovely home, and then the information that the home had been torn down to make room for apartments. All of the photos are extensively documented, and the information is even listed at Top, Middle, and Bottom so that the viewer doesn't have to wonder which description matches which photo. I was particularly intrigued by the portrait photos and the images of the ladies' clothing. Even if you are not a museum buff, this photo gallery is worth a look.

As we were looking at one of the information plaques in town, a gentleman passing stopped to chat and told us about this historic photographic exhibition. It really is a hidden gem as we'd never have found it otherwise. There are thousands of photographs from before and after the Civil War of the local citizens of Natchez but, uniquely, they are mostly identified. Unbelievably, these images are pin-sharp and quite large and it has clearly been a labour of love to restore them but we spent a totally fascinating couple of hours looking into the past. Unmissable!

Don't miss this! We stumbled upon the Stratton Chapel Gallery as we visited Natchez on the American Queen. Our tour guide mentioned it as we passed and we were stunned when we visited. The wonderful pictures spanning the 19th and 20th century told such a great story of the people of Natchez and their lives. What an intimate view this gives of the city and it's residents. Thank goodness it has been preserved and made available for the public.

Very nice photos. Interesting to learn that they were stored in a basement and on a front porch for years until a couple bought and restored the photos from negatives. Great way to get a feel for the area.

This is an awesome collection of historic photos of old Natchez. There are some very cool photos of debutants and a lot of regular people of Natchez of 150 years ago. There are multiple rooms of photos in the building. A donation is recommended.

If you like old photos, this is a find place to visit; there's a large quantity and high quality and I must have been there close to an hour. It had been recommended to me by the owner of the GardenSong Bed and Breakfast. When I'd asked the directions to the Presbyterian Church for Sunday service, he recommended a visit to the Stratton Chapel. I went on a Tuesday afternoon, and I had the whole place to myself. The gallery runs on an honor system, with a donation box, and often no attendant. I love this; what an honest community to allow this self-guided experience.
I went there just minutes after leaving a tour at Magnolia Hall. This was a sensible "1-2 punch" so-to-speak, as Magnolia Hall and the Stratton Chapel Gallery are very close to one another, and lend complementary (not complimentary) historical perspectives-- the former has an available guide while the latter offers a self-guided approach.

There are many wonderful photos on display here. So many rooms in fact that after awhile my eyes started to glaze over I would recommend this but if in town for enough time, perhaps take it in over a few days or break it up over a course of a day with a couple of stops.

Represents the work of three photographers, Henry Guerney, Henry Norman and Earl Norman. It's located on the second floor of the First Presbyterian Church--access through the side door of the church. Covers Natchez from the Civil War to WWII. Kind of out of the way but the photographs are amazing. You see what the city was like, river commerce and lots of riverboat pictures. There are also photographs pf the city inhabitants. The photographers had studios so they took socialite and wedding pictures--the gallery picked the best to display. Pictures were periodically taken from the highest church steeple so you can see how Natchez changed. Plan to spend a couple lot hours--very interesting if you're a history buff.

I wish I had gone to this gallery earlier when my feet weren't already tired because the number and variety of old photos there is remarkable. From ladies in their stylish clothing to children to streets in old Natchez to prominent men to flooded Natchez, it's all there. I particularly enjoyed the ladies in their finery and the sweet children. Amazing to me that such good pictures were made so long ago.

I have been coming to Natches for years, and I had no idea this existed. If I had not read it on trip advisor, I never would have known. The building is nice, but you need to go upstairs and see the photo history of the city of Natchez. There are photos of young women, children, families, buildings and businesses, and even steamboats, what a history! This church should be very proud of the job it's done on this.
