We really enjoyed walking through this woodland nature reserve. We were able to view Silver Ferns and Kauri trees during the easy walk along the boardwalk. The adjacent museum is also well worth a visit.

The Warkworth Museum is located next to this park and shares the same car park. As you enter the carpark, you are greeted by two of the largest kauri trees in the park, McKinney- and Simpson kauri. Both parking and entry to the park are free. (The museum charges an entry fee.) A path to the left of the museum leads into the park proper. It passes in front of the Simpson kauri. From there, you walk amongst a regenerating kauri forest. The path splits and there are options for shorter or longer walks.
When we visited, I could hear loud kaka calls but could not spot the birds. If you are in the area, I highly recommend the slight detour to visit this park.

It was a really lovely walk. A few stairs, but nothing I could not handle. I would have appreciated a map of some sort as I went in blind, not knowing if it was a loop walk or a straight 'go too far and you will get lost' time of walk Even if they did not print maps, at least have a QR code so you can pull it up on your phone, or at each intersection, have a 'you are here' map. I was a bit panicked that it would turn out to be a maze and I should leave bread crumbs (a la Hansel and Gretal)
I read another review that there were too many stairs. I did not think there was. I also found lots of new looking bannisters have been erected and still smelt new. Also it looked like some sections of the boardwalk have been locked off with new gates, so maybe I did not see those stairs? Those paths looked older and the wood was very dark and aged. The path I was on looked wide and safe, not slippery at all.
I really liked the shoe washing thing at the beginning and end of the trail! I wish these were available after every hike I went on! It was also great as the guy at the airport did not confiscate my hiking boots, declaring they were clean enough!

One Huge ancient Kauri tree is next to the carpark & there is a large grassy area for picnics. The bush walk is a 20minute gentle circular boardwalk. It's easy for all ages & not too long for the very young or elderly.
The settler museum has old tools & interesting memorabilia too. Definitely worth this quick rest-stop.

This was an absolutely brilliant chance to experience a walk through the native trees.
The access to the area is easy and the walk has been well thought out to enhance the visit. The streams and wet areas are covered with ferns of many varieties.
Free to enter and a great place to walk.
A big thank you to all the volunteers who keep the grove in such good condition.

This is a wonderful place. A MUST VISIT kind of place. We spent two hours in the Museum and an hour walking along the boardwalk in the Kauri forest. Thank God it's been saved. Why can't I send a photo Trip Advisor?

This is an amazing Bush walk through kauri trees, young & old as well as other bush containing nikau palms, ponga ferns and more. Pathway is beautifully maintained & a very easy walk for 2 70yr olds. It was well sign-posted and the trees etc were well labelled.
The Warkworth Museum, also there is a work of local love. It is great!

Great place to visit for a forest walk through mature NZ native trees(free entry). There is also a small museum($7 per adult) plus a shop which has beautiful handmade wooden toys & cheeseboards made with NZ timbers at very reasonable prices. Well worth the visit.

Have driven past the sign on the main road many times over the years and wondered what was there. Finally turned off to check it out. Awesome! Stunning large Kauri, walkway through the Bush lovely although not accessible to those who have mobility issues. The museum was interesting, worth a look. Good parking.

My wife and I were on an organized tour of New Zealand. We stopped here on our way back to Auckland. The walkway has several loops and one viewing platform. It takes about 20-25 minutes to do the entire walkway. You can pick up a guide about the plants you may see. There were a few kauri trees, but the forest itself was really the highlight of the walk. For really impressive kauri trees, I recommend going to Puketi Kauri forest near the Bay of Islands.
