Locust Shade Park is a small gem of the Prince William County Parks and Recreation system and it has amenities to suit all ages. Besides the natural beauty and picturesque trails, the park has a fishing lake with marina, bank fishing, picnic tables and pavilions, tennis courts, miniature golf, batting cage, golf driving range and several playgrounds. Because of Covid-19, paddle boats and canoes are not available for rent nor is the amphitheater open. Five miles of relatively easy trails are available for hiking, dog walking or jogging. This park is a popular place for boy and girl scouts. A garden dedicated to a Girl Scout leader is near GRŌ, a natural science education center, is not open to the general public but available to school-age children to explore and interact in a natural setting. One of the trails leads to the Semper Fidelis Memorial Park, part of the National Museum of the Marine Corps complex.

We rented one of the pavilions for a large family picnic. The process of the rental was very easy. Our pavilion (Marigold) had a horseshoe pit right next to us. There is a volleyball sand court close by. There were bathroom facilities very close to the pavilion. They have batting cages, putt putt, tennis courts, paddle boats, hiking trails, fishing and other things to do. There is something for everyone.

We came here for a wedding reception BBQ and this park was the perfect location for it. The weather was also perfect and not too much sun around.

Been going to Locust Shade for decades. Right off Route 1 and I-95, about a half mile south of the Triangle gate for USMC Base Quantico and the Marine Corps Museum.
The park is home to the Jean C. Smith Amphitheater, a 400-seat outdoor performance venue that presents family entertainment during the summer season. There is also an eight-acre pond and marina for paddle boat rentals that is open year-round for fishing.
My boys always catch something.
There are pavilions for picnic rental, a golf driving range thing, nature trails, tennis courts, playgrounds...most of which are nearly empty most of the year!
Nominal fees for a few of the items, but entry and parking are free.
We love this place...but it seems hardly patronized. The park staff (the park is managed by Prince William County) is helpful and friendly.
Clean and bucolic. Abundant wildlife, but nothing "scary".
The park is open year round from 7:00 a.m. to dusk.
I HIGHLY recommend this little gem for a quiet afternoon with the kids or a picnic.
