I can’t emphasize enough- if you’re in San Antonio, this is a must see!! It’s outdoors, it’s free, it has history, it has music, it has art. It is incredible!
Seating is limited so bring chairs, a blanket, or plan to stand. There is a small vendor close by offering drinks. Otherwise no close options.
It’s about 25 minutes long so you are okay to stand (if able) and without refreshments.
Area felt safe. It’s well lit. Police station on the next block. Well attended event.
Photos show the cathedral during the day and then photos of the show. These are not external lights on the building set to music. It’s a laser projection light show. Truly amazing!

Wow! The show uses the lasers to travel up, down, sideways, and around. It traces the history of Texas with lots of recognizable faces. There is very limited seating for the 24-minute show. Be sure to sit up close.

They kept the uplighting on, which made the story difficult to follow. The lighting completely obscured the main part of the display. It was kind of pointless but I see how it could be interesting.

The engineering that goes into these sort of shows always astounds me. However, I had been hoping for more of a narrative aspect of the show. Instead, it is just pictures and music. If you KNOW the history of San Antonio, you can easily pick out different time periods and scenes, but if you're just learning it, some of the references may not be readily obvious. Still, for a free thing to do? It's cool.

Very cool display using modern art to move through history. It took advantage of the face of the cathedral in it's pictures to create some optical illusions. We viewed from our hotel, so the music wasn't always audible at that distance.

Next to the Riverwalk, this was my favorite memory from San Antonio. This is a free light show that is displayed outdoors on the cathedrals exterior. The plaza has tables and chairs, so arrive early to get a good seat. The show lasts for about 30 minutes and presents the history of San Antonio. There was coffee and beer served at a nearby stand on the plaza.

The "Saga" is a light show that is shown on the front of the San Fernando Cathedral. The show tells the history of San Antonio. The show lasts 25 minutes. There is some seating, but we would suggest you bring your own chair or blanket to sit on. There are some vendors in the area so some food and beverages are available for purchase. There are 2 shows nightly. The first at 9:00 and the second at 9:30. On the evenings when it gets dark later, I would suggest attending the later show because it would be easier to see the light show. It is an easy walk from the downtown tourist area.

Don't miss this. Standing in the plaza opposite the Cathedral this light show depicted on the Cathedral facade gives the history of San Antonio. It is both breathtaking and fascinating. It is also not advertised nearly enough as one day at breakfast talking to a couple who had been here for days they knew nothing about it. It's free for the watching. Yes, there are homeless peple iin the plaza but we felt safe and no one bothers you. There is limited seating on some stone and wooden benches while you wait but it is best seen from about 20 yards back standing. It is about 25 minutes long and takes place 9 and 9:30 ...there are one or two nights it does not run so check to be sure. But don't miss it.

The light show goes for approximately 20 minutes and is well worth the effort.
The plaza was full of people and the atmosphere friendly. The show started on time and was great representation of the history of San Antonio. Very colourful and interesting.

What a phantastic light show! Do not miss it when you are in San Antonio. You have to check in the internet when the 30 minutes Saga starts as this is dependent on the time of sunset. It is not on every evening so you shouldcheck it directly when you arrive in San Antonio. If you need a chair make sure to be there a bit earlier. They have placed some rows of chairs on the plaza.. We saw it standing at the right side in front of the Cathedral and it was amazing!

There’s a message on their website saying the light show is cancelled until further notice...I’m planning a trip 10/25 and 10/26 so I wanted to see if anyone has any updated info about this? Thanks!

We were there in the late fall and the light show began at 7:30 PM. With daylight savings time in effect now it must be dark for the full effect of the light show. I would check with either the cathedral or the hotel desk where you are staying for the times. The show was repeated every one half hour. Arrive early to get a good spot in the front of the plaza facing the cathedral.

I'm not sure what the schedule is for the light show. Best to check the website or ask when you arrive at your destination. But it's definitely a don't miss free event!!!

Check the San Antonio / The Saga site. As far as I know it runs each week on Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 9am, 9:30pm, and 10pm. The light show is at the San Fernando Cathedral and lasts 24 minutes.
