I think the thing that always impresses me most when I shop at Coyote's Paw is how it's a place to let one's curiosity range free. Any question I've ever asked about their goods--high quality antiques, jewelry, and artifacts from around the world--is met with expertise about the culture and history that produced the beautiful or fascinating object. They can knowledgeably drill down with accuracy and depth.

The enthusiastic and charming staff (a married couple) seem eager to share their love of the items they've carried back from travels to places most of us wouldn't even know to go. When you buy something there it feels like an expansion of your own world.

It's a lot of fun to shop at Coyote's Paw--they know how to price their merchandise without the greed factor and to make their customers feel not only valued, but part of the adventure.

This shop/gallery is a treasure trove of traditional tribal jewelry, art and artifacts from over fifty countries in Africa, Asia, Oceania, the Middle East, and the Americas. The shop is one room, but it holds a world of unique items, carefully curated and displayed: tribal and ethnographic jewelry from India, Morocco and Central Asia, tribal boots, sculpture, masks and costumes from Africa, as well as Tuareg nomad daggers, and jewelry and leather work from the Sahara, Indonesian textiles, Tibetan bronzes, and Navajo, Hopi Zuni and Santo Domingo jewelry.

How fotunate we were to happen upon this lovely gallery! Alan and partner Ann have assembled an amazing variety of REAL cultural art pieces, in a calm, cozy setting. We learned that much of the unique collection was gathered by them when travelling the globe: Alan an anthropologist. Ann an artist. Each item has its own history and he connected us to them with stories. His humour delightful. His depth of knowledge impressive. Lots of shops in Santa Fe-don't miss this one. The Pueblo earrings we puchased were very reasonably priced.

This venue is truly comparable to an ethnographic museum where one has the privilege of the option of buying the pieces, which are both vintage and contemporary. Always an enlightening experience to visit Alan and Anne, they are both proficient artists with unique niches and craftspeople of the highest calibre. Alan is an authority on music and instruments of the World. These folks have packed an amazing amount of beauty and intrigue into this charming off-Canyon Road shop, original and aboriginal arts of all kinds, including beautiful jewelry. Absolutely worth a visit.

This shop is just at the base of Canyon Road and has an easily accessed parking area. The owners are collectors of everything from Mongolian Buddhist Art to American Indian. What really sets them apart is the connoisseur-ship of the collection. Much of it gathered on Alan's globe travels. He has delightful stories as well. Definitely worth a visit!

Santa Fe is noted for its art and items from diverse cultures. Well, it is true and for those already interested and especially those who are new to ethnographic art and culture, Coyote's Paw is a place not to be missed. The owners Alan and Ann are experts in the best sense of the word having lived out in the world and traveled to places we can barely pronounce to bring back outstanding examples of the art and craft of the people they met. I recently found, actually Alan called to let me know he had a fabulous balangada from Brazil that i immediately snatched up. Don't miss it!

Owner Alan Suits has travelled widely and traded in places as diverse as Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. His store offers truly fine and select pieces at very reasonable prices, and his expertise and knowledge of world folk art-especially jewelry- is exceptional. Coyote's Paw Gallery has one of the best collections of Amercian Indian jewelry in Santa Fe, which is really saying something.
